Basilica Of Santa Rita Da Cascia
The Basilica of Santa Rita da Cascia is a 20th-century Roman Catholic minor basilica church, sanctuary, and convent located in the town of Cascia, province of Perugia, region of Umbria, Italy. History The basilica was built in the early twentieth century to provide a larger church to house the much visited relics of the former nun, Saint Rita of Cascia, who was canonized in 1900. The initial impulse was guided by the Abbess Maria Teresa Fasce, now considered a blessed individual by the Roman Catholic church. Lacking the money for the construction of a church, some funds were initially raised by subscriptions to a journal titled ''Dalle Api alle Rose'' and a donation by Pope Benedict XV. In 1931, the Pope Pius XI added further funding, and a plan was elaborated by the engineer Maria Spirito Chiapetta, and the architects Giuseppe Calori and Giuseppe Martinenghi. Giacomo Manzù
Giacomo Manzù, pseudonym of Giacomo Manzoni (22 December 1908 – 17 January 1991), was an Italian sculptor. Biography Manzù was born in Bergamo. His father was a shoemaker. Other than a few evening art classes, he was self-taught in sculpture, and later became a professor himself. He started working with wood during his military service in Veneto in 1928; later, after a short stay in Paris, he moved to Milan, where architect Giovanni Muzio commissioned him the decoration of the chapel of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (1931–1932). In 1933 he exhibited a series of busts at the Triennale di Milano, which granted him national popularity. The following year he held a personal exhibition in Rome with the painter Aligi Sassu, with whom he shared a studio. Enrico Gasparri S.T.D. JUD (25 July 1871 – 20 May 1946) was a Roman Catholic Cardinal and Archbishop. Biography Enrico was ordained on 10 August 1894 at the age of 23. He studied in Rome receiving degrees in theology and philosophy and worked in Rome in a pastoral role from 1894 until 1898. He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was working as the auditor in the nunciature to Brazil when, on 14 November 1915, Pope Benedict XV appointed him Titular Archbishop of Sebastea and Apostolic Delegate to Colombia. On 1 September 1920 Pope Benedict appointed him Nuncio to Brazil. The appointment ended when on 14 December 1925 he was created Cardinal-Priest of San Bartolomeo all'Isola at the age of 54.
