Basic Training (1985 Film)
''Basic Training'' (a.k.a. ''Up the Military'') is a 1985 sex comedy film by Andrew Sugerman. It is often considered to be one of the worst films of 1985. While set in Washington D.C., most of the production was filmed in Los Angeles, including Bob Hope Patriotic Hall. During production the working title was "Up the Pentagon." Plot The film follows Melinda, a female employee of the Pentagon's public information service, who loses her job when she refuses to give in to her male superiors' sexual advances. She then becomes outraged by the Pentagon's "un-patriotic" actions, and takes revenge on them by using her physical charms to seduce the top brass into letting her back into the Pentagon. After being re-employed, she sets out to manipulate them to her will and destroy their careers, thus ridding the US government of what she sees as "perverts", who care more about cheap thrills than national security. Andrew Sugerman is an American film producer. He attended the University of Rochester and subsequently the NYU – Tisch School of the Arts. Andrew began his career in television commercials and educational films in New York, then moved to Los Angeles, where he now resides, to work in theatrical feature films. Career Andrew Barry Sugerman has been involved in the production of a diverse range of motion pictures as a producer over the past thirty years. His own production,Conviction" based on a true story, starring Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell and Minnie Driver, directed by Tony Goldwyn, was released in October 2010 by Fox Searchlight and received many awards and critical praise. Martin S. Brill (May 6, 1932 – January 23, 2021) was an American comedian, writer, actor and musician who appeared regularly on 1960s and 1970s TV in both variety shows (''The Ed Sullivan Show'', ''The Merv Griffin Show'', ''The Tonight Show'') and sitcoms (''The New Dick Van Dyke Show'', ''The Mary Tyler Moore Show''). In the late 1970s, Marty Brill did some writing in the 1970s for the "New Soupy Sales Show," also occasionally playing characters on the show, especially after Soupy's longtime sidekick (Clyde Adler) took ill during production of the series. He also was the lyricist for the short lived 1964 Broadway musical ''Cafe Crown''.
