Basford, Nottingham
Basford is a northerly suburb of Nottingham, England, incorporated into the city in 1877. It gave its name to Basford Rural District, which existed from 1894 to 1974. The ward population at the 2011 census was 16,207, estimated at 16,779 in 2019. Next to Old Basford is New Basford, which is mainly Victorian. Basford lies close to the River Leen, a tributary of the River Trent. It is linked to Nottingham City Centre to the south and Hucknall and Bulwell to the north by the Nottingham Express Transit tram service. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The 2022 winners were Newport Pagnell Town, who beat Littlehampton Town 3–0 at Wembley Stadium. History Until 1974, football players were either professionals or amateurs. FA Trophy
The Football Association Challenge Trophy, commonly known as the FA Trophy, is a men's football knockout cup competition run by and named after the English Football Association and competed for primarily by semi-professional teams. The competition was instigated in 1969 to cater to those non-league clubs that paid their players and were therefore not eligible to enter the FA Amateur Cup. Eligibility rules have changed over time, but from 2008 onwards the competition has been open to clubs playing in Steps 1–4 of the National League System, equivalent to tiers 5–8 of the overall English football league system. The 2022–23 FA Cup qualifying rounds opened the 142nd edition of the FA Cup, the world's oldest association football single knockout competition, organised by The Football Association, the governing body for the sport in England. 640 teams in the 5th to 10th tier of English football competed across six rounds for 32 spots in the First Round Proper. Eligibility Applications to enter qualifying opened on 25 February 2022 and closed on 1 April 2022. The entry list, round exemptions and scheduling was confirmed on 1 July 2022. 640 teams from Level 5 to Level 9 of the English football league system (otherwise known as Steps 1 to 5 of the National League System) were eligible to compete. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. Steve Chettle
Stephen John Chettle (born 27 September 1968) is an English football manager and former professional footballer, who is director of football at Basford United. As a player, he was a defender from 1986 to 2005 and was best known for his time as a player at Nottingham Forest where he made 415 league appearances and played numerous seasons in the Premier League, won the League Cup and was a runner-up in the FA Cup. Despite playing most of his career in the top level of English football, Chettle never made the England squad, but came close in 1992, despite this Chettle played 12 games for the England Under-21s, captaining them in his final appearance. He went on to play for Barnsley, Walsall and Grimsby Town before ending his career in Non-League football with stints at Burton Albion and Ilkeston Town.
