Baseball At The 2015 Pan American Games – Women's Tournament
The women's baseball tournament at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, was held at the President's Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark in Ajax, from July 20 to 26. Women's baseball was making its Pan American Games debut, after being added to the program at the 2013 Pan American Sports Organization's general assembly. All women's matches happened on the main field. For these Games, the women competed in a 5-team tournament. The teams were grouped into one single pool and all teams played each other in a round-robin preliminary round. The top two teams after the round robin played for gold, and teams ranked third and fourth contested the bronze-medal match. Qualification A total of five women's team qualified to compete at the games. Canada as host nation qualified automatically, along with the top four nations at the qualification event held in March 2015. Women's rosters can have a maximum of 18 athletes. Pan Am Ball Park
The Ajax Sportsplex is a baseball and softball facility located in Ajax, Ontario, Canada that hosted the baseball and softball competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games. During the games the venue was known as the ''President's Choice Ajax Ballpark.'' Description The facility consists of four softball diamonds and two baseball diamonds at Taunton Road and Audley Road in north east Ajax. Prior to the games the facility received 9 million dollars in upgrades to ensure it met World Baseball Softball Confederation standards, which included converting two soccer fields into a baseball diamond and the adjacent existing baseball diamond being rebuilt with new sod and clay. During the games the Sportsplex housed four stadiums. Two premier fields had temporary seating for 5,000 each, with one being for baseball and one for softball and two competition fields had 1,200 seats each (one for each sport). Veronica Rose Gajownik (born August 4, 1993) is a former American softball and baseball player, and an American baseball manager. She was a member of the United States women's national baseball team which won a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. In 2023 she was named the Hillsboro Hops’ manager for the 2023 season; this made her the first woman to manage a High-A team, and the first openly LGBTQ manager in minor or major league baseball history. Biography Veronica Gajownik was born in Winter Park, Florida, on August 4, 1993. She is the daughter of Marcel Gajownik and Glenn Richards, a chief meteorologist for WOFL. Playing career Sementelli played Little League Baseball in Sherman Oaks, California, earning All-Star honors. During high school, she spent two years on the baseball team at Burbank High and two playing for Matt Mowry at Birmingham High. While at Birmingham, she pitched a complete game against San Marcos High School of Santa Barbara, throwing 102 pitches.
