Geography The drainage divide created by the Great Dividing Range runs from north to south near the eastern boundary of the locality. Hann Family Grave
Hann Family Grave is a heritage-listed cemetery at Bluff Downs Station, Basalt, Charters Towers Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1864 to 1865. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 24 June 1999. History The Kennedy District was the first area settled by Europeans in North Queensland. The district was officially proclaimed open for settlement on 1 January 1861. Early pastoralists, encouraged by the success of the Australian wool industry, sought land in the district for sheep raising. One of the earliest settlers was Joseph Hann. The Hann family had emigrated from Wiltshire in 1851, taking up land on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. Family stories indicate that Joseph and his family were not satisfied with the quality of the land they had settled and, encouraged by the buoyant wool industry, decided to follow other Victorian pastoralists moving into North West Queensland. Lolworth Creek Battery
Lolworth Creek Battery is a heritage-listed stamper battery at Basalt ( west of Charters Towers), Charters Towers Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from to . It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 14 June 2003. History The Lolworth Creek workings, also known as Mount Hope, officially produced about of gold from quartz veins in granite country rock. Unfortunately, there is only a relatively small area free from the thick basalt which covers all but the mined area north of the creek. The workings are located in four groups of leases: Mount Hope and Crystal Oak on the north, and the Toby Creek group to the south. Government geologist W.E. Cameron inspected the reefs in 1920 and thought they might be profitably worked if they were equipped with inexpensive plant and opened out. Auriferous copper was discovered in 1926 by W.H. Gregory Highway
The Gregory Highway is a state highway in Queensland, Australia that serves the major coal-mining centres of Central Queensland. The highway was named after Augustus Gregory, an early explorer. Route description The highway runs southward from Quartz Blow Creek, a point west of Mount Surprise on the Gulf Developmental Road, via Charters Towers, to Springsure, over away. The northern section of is designated by the state government as the Gregory Developmental Road. The shorter southern section between Clermont and Springsure () is designated the Gregory Highway. Great Basalt Wall National Park
Great Basalt Wall is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 1124 km northwest of Brisbane. This national park protects 35,200 ha of land containing the Great Basalt Wall, a geological formation of the Toomba flow. The Toomba volcano erupted approximately 20,000 years ago, covered 670 square kilometres, and flowed for 120 km. It is one of the most recent volcanic eruptions in Queensland. Due to the viscous nature of the rocky lava flows the park is not accessible to the public. 249 animal species inhabit the park. The elevation of the terrain is 498 meters. Dalrymple National Park
Dalrymple is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 1108 km northwest of Brisbane. The park has unique features such as ancient lava flows and the Burdekin River, the largest river in Queensland.
