Barış Sulu is a Turkish politician from the Peoples' Democratic Party (Turkey), Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). Sulu is the first openly gay parliamentary candidate in Turkey.First-ever openly gay parliamentary candidate stands for election in Turkey ''The Independent'', 25 May 2015. Peoples' Democratic Party (Turkey)
The Peoples' Democratic Party ( Turkish: ''Halkların Demokratik Partisi'', acronymized as HDP; Kurdish: ''Partiya Demokratîk a Gelan''), or Democratic Party of the Peoples, is a pro- minority political party in Turkey. Generally left-wing, the party places a strong emphasis on participatory and radical democracy, feminism, LGBT rights, minority rights, youth rights and egalitarianism. It is an associate member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) a consultative member of the Socialist International and a party within the Progressive Alliance (PA). The Independent
''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition. The newspaper was controlled by Tony O'Reilly's Irish Independent News & Media from 1997 until it was sold to the Russian oligarch and former KGB Officer Alexander Lebedev in 2010.
