Barry Town Council is an elected town council serving Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, one of the largest towns in Wales. Functions The town council describes itself as the only elected body dedicated solely to the interests of Barry residents. Its councillors provide a channel to pass on opinions to other organisations and public bodies. Councillors are members of various local governing bodies and organisations. Illtyd (electoral Ward)
Illtyd is the name of an electoral ward in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It is represented by councillors on Barry Town Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Description The Illtyd ward covers a residential part of Barry to the west of the town. Barry College campus is in the ward as well as several schools, including the Welsh-medium Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg. The Barry ward of Baruc lies to the south, Dyfan lies to the northeast. The Vale ward of Rhoose lies to the west. According to the 2011 census the population of the ward was 8,201, with 6,433 of voting age. The Welsh Conservatives ( cy, Ceidwadwyr Cymreig) is the branch of the United Kingdom Conservative Party that operates in Wales. Welsh Labour ( cy, Llafur Cymru) is the branch of the United Kingdom Labour Party in Wales and the largest party in modern Welsh politics. Media Wales Ltd. is a publishing company based in Cardiff, Wales. As of 2009 it was owned by Reach plc (formerly known as the Trinity Mirror Group). South Glamorgan County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir De Morgannwg) was the local government authority that administered the county of South Glamorgan, Wales from its creation in 1974 until its abolition in 1996. The Vale of Glamorgan Council is the governing body for the Vale of Glamorgan, one of the Principal Areas of Wales. It was run by the Conservative Party after the 2008 United Kingdom local elections, taking over the council from no overall control. Gibbonsdown, colloquially known as 'Gibby', is a residential area and electoral ward situated in the north east of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Gibbonsdown borders Merthyr Dyfan to the northwest and Cadoxton to the southeast. Crime In 2009, Gibbonsdown was the location of the fatal stabbing of Paul Jones.
