Barry Philbin
RL Record Keeper's Club Barry Philbin (14 July 1950) is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s. He played at representative level for England, and at club level for Swinton and Warrington ( Heritage № 750), as a , i.e. number 13, during the era of contested scrums. He subsequently broke his leg, which he puts down to playing in jersey number unlucky 13. Playing career International honours Barry Philbin won a cap for England while at Warrington in the 1975 Rugby League World Cup against France. 1973–74 Northern Rugby Football League Season
The 1973–74 Rugby Football League season was the 79th season of Rugby league, rugby league football. Season summary 1973-1974 saw two division rugby re-introduced. The Championship playoffs were done away with and the league leaders were declared the champions. A "Club Championship" was played in place of the playoffs but this was a one-off precursor to what became the end of season Premiership. It was a complicated format that involved sides from both divisions. On 25 April, David Watkins (rugby), David Watkins of Salford Red Devils, Salford scored the last of 929 points (41 tries, 403 goals) in a record run of scoring in 92 consecutive games for one club. Keith Mumby made his début for Bradford Bulls, Bradford Northern this season as the club's youngest ever player, aged 16. The Willows, Salford
The Willows was a rugby league stadium in Weaste, Salford, England. It had a final capacity of 11,363 with 2,500 seats. History In 1900, Salford agreed a 14-year lease on of land belonging to the Willows Estate Company, named after the abundance of willow trees in the area. They made their debut at the Willows on 21 December 1901, beating Swinton 2–0 in front of 16,981 fans. In the 1960s, the terrace was flattened at the Willows Road end to make way for the Salford Football and Social Club which was officially opened on 16 June 1966. The Willows switched on its floodlights for the first time in the match with Widnes on Friday 11 March 1966. On 26 November 1989, Salford unveiled a new £50,000 electronic scoreboard above the Willows Variety Centre. BBC2 Floodlit Trophy
The BBC 2 Floodlit Trophy (also known as the BBC 2 Television Trophy) was a competition for British rugby league clubs held between 1965 and 1980. It was designed specifically for television, and the then director of BBC2, broadcaster David Attenborough, was instrumental in its creation. When the competition was first mooted not many clubs were equipped with floodlights, but the tournament caused no fewer than twenty-one clubs to install them. The tournament was not Rugby League's first foray into evening television; the 1955–56 season saw a tournament titled the Independent Television Floodlit Trophy. Eight clubs participated in a series of games played at football grounds in the London area, with Warrington eventually running out 43–18 victors over Leigh.
