Barry Evans (baseball)
Barry Steven Evans (born November 30, 1955) is an American former Major League Baseball third baseman. He played all or part of five seasons in the major leagues from until . He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Pro career Barry Evans was drafted by the New York Mets in the 8th round of the June MLB draft out of West Georgia. Evans did not sign with the Mets. He was drafted again the next season, this time by the San Diego Padres in the second round. Evans, upon being drafted, reported to the Padres minor league affiliate in Walla Walla. In his first season of pro ball, Evans batted .358 and slugged 11 home runs for the single A team. The next season, Evans was promoted to San Diego's Double-A team in Amarillo. There again, Evans showed his power at the plate by hitting ten home runs, and again batted over .300. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. In the scoring system used to record defensive plays, the third baseman is assigned the number 5. Third base is known as the "hot corner", because the third baseman is often the infielder who stands closest to the batter—roughly 90–120 feet away, but even closer if a bunt is expected. Paul Dade
Lonnie Paul Dade (December 7, 1951 – August 25, 2016) was a Major League Baseball outfielder/third baseman. On June 4, 1970 he was drafted by the California Angels in the 1st round (10th pick) of the 1970 amateur draft. He played for the Angels (1975–1976), Cleveland Indians (1977–1979), and San Diego Padres (1979–1980). Dade was called up to the Angels after hitting .332 in 100 games for the El Paso Diablos of the Texas League and then .545 in 9 games for the Salt Lake City Gulls of the Pacific Coast League. He made his major league debut on September 12, 1975 at Royals Stadium, starting the second game of a doubleheader in left field against Kansas City. He went 0-for-3 against Al Fitzmorris. Maine Guides
The Maine Guides were an American minor league baseball franchise that played in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, between 1984 and 1988. The Triple-A International League (IL) club was named for a classification of registered hunting and wilderness guides in the state called Maine Guides for its first four seasons, but changed to the Maine Phillies for its final campaign. History In December 1982, Jordan Kobritz purchased the Charleston Charlies from Carl Steinfelt. The Charlies played in Charleston, West Virginia, in 1983 and Kobritz moved them to Maine ahead of the 1984 season. Sportscaster Gary Thorne was a co-owner of the team. Although Old Orchard Beach is not one of Maine's year-round population centers, it is a popular summer vacation destination. Dick Williams
Richard Hirschfeld Williams (May 7, 1929 – July 7, 2011) was an American left fielder, third baseman, manager, coach and front-office consultant in Major League Baseball. Known especially as a hard-driving, sharp-tongued manager from 1967 to 1969 and from 1971 to 1988, he led teams to three American League pennants, one National League pennant, and two World Series triumphs. He is one of nine managers to win pennants in both major leagues, and joined Bill McKechnie in becoming only the second manager to lead three franchises to the Series.
