Scott Wike
Scott Wike (April 6, 1834 – January 15, 1901) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois. Born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Wike moved with his parents to Quincy, Illinois, in 1838 and to Pike County in 1844. He graduated from Lombard University in Galesburg in 1857. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1858. Wike graduated from Harvard Law School in 1859 and commenced practice the same year in Pittsfield, Illinois. He served as member of the State house of representatives 1863-1867. Wike was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1875 – March 3, 1877). Cliff Padgett
Clifford E. "Cliff" Padgett (December 19, 1879August 7, 1951) was an American motorboat builder who built racing boats. He broke the world water speed record in hydroplane boat racing in 1924. Life Padgett was born in 1879 in Barry, Illinois. In 1894 he moved to Quincy, Illinois, where he began an apprenticeship at a blacksmith shop owned by John Reagan. In 1903, Padgett began to take an interest in the river as well as in building a racing boat with a Pierce-Budd 3-cylinder engine. In 1906, he married Reagan's daughter Lillian and opened his own blacksmith shop. With only a fifth-grade education, Padgett took a correspondence course in mechanical drawing and design. He developed a skill for " blueprinting" and carving miniature boat models out of mahogany. Lottie Holman O'Neill
Lottie (Holman) O'Neill (November 7, 1878 – February 17, 1967) was an American politician from Illinois who was the first woman elected to the Illinois General Assembly. First elected in 1922, O'Neill served 40 years in the Assembly, the longest-serving female elected official in the United States at the time. The Louisville Colonels were a Major League Baseball team that also played in the American Association (AA) throughout that league's ten-year existence from 1882 until 1891. George Nicol (baseball)
George Edward Nicol (October 17, 1870 – August 4, 1924) was an American baseball pitcher and outfielder who played three seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the St. Louis Browns, Chicago Colts, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Louisville Colonels from 1890 to 1894. Possessing the rare combination of batting right-handed and throwing left-handed, he served primarily as a right fielder when he did not pitch. Signed by the Browns without having previously played any minor league baseball, Nicol made his debut on September 23, 1890, and pitched—what was then considered to be—a no-hitter. The following season, he joined the Chicago Colts in July after starting in the minor leagues. After a two-year sojourn away from the major leagues, he signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1894.
