''Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator'' was a detective drama heard on NBC Radio from October 3, 1951 to June 30, 1955. Detective Barrie Craig (William Gargan) worked alone from his Madison Avenue office. Unlike his contemporaries Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe, Craig had a laid-back personality, somewhat cutting against the popular hard-boiled detective stereotype. Others in the cast included Ralph Bell, Elspeth Eric, Parker Fennelly, Santos Ortega, Arnold Moss, Parley Baer, Virginia Gregg and Betty Lou Gerson. Don Pardo was the announcer. William Gargan
William Dennis Gargan (July 17, 1905February 17, 1979) was an American film, television and radio actor. He was the 5th recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 1967, and in 1941, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Joe in '' They Knew What They Wanted''. He acted in decades of movies including parts in ''Follow the Leader'', ''Rain'', ''Night Flight'', ''Three Sons'', ''Isle of Destiny'' and many others. The role he was best known for was that of a private detective Martin Kane in the 1949–1952 radio-television series ''Martin Kane, Private Eye.'' Dominick George "Don" Pardo (February 22, 1918 – August 18, 2014) was an American radio and television announcer whose career spanned more than seven decades. A member of the Television Hall of Fame, Pardo was noted for his 70-year tenure with NBC, working as the announcer for early incarnations of such notable shows as ''The Price Is Right'', ''Jackpot'', ''Jeopardy!'', ''Three on a Match'', ''Winning Streak'' and ''NBC Nightly News''. His longest, and best-known, announcing job was for NBC's ''Saturday Night Live'', a job he held for 38 seasons, from the show's debut in 1975 until 1981 and then 1982 until his death in 2014. Radio ''Martin Kane, Private Eye'' began as a 1949–1952 radio series starring William Gargan in the title role as New York City private detective Martin Kane.
