Barranquilla Fútbol Club is a professional Colombian football team based in Barranquilla, that currently plays in the Categoría Primera B. They play their home games at the Estadio Romelio Martínez. History Barranquilla F.C. was founded in January 2005 by a group of businessmen led by Arturo Char who considering that Barranquilla did not have a team in the Primera B, decided to give the city a new alternative. Barranquilla F.C. has always been strongly supported by the lower divisions of Junior. Even the former president of Junior Alejandro Arteta was previously president of Barranquilla F.C. The team has not won any title in the Primera B, but has always been a great promoter of the tournament, qualifying to several finals and displaying great football. Barranquilla () is the capital district of Atlántico Department in Colombia. Romelio Martínez Stadium
The Estadio Romelio Martínez, or Romelio Martínez Stadium, is a sports stadium located at 72 street and 46 Avenue in the Colombian city of Barranquilla. It has a capacity of 8,600 spectators. Until the construction of the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in 1986, the Romelio Martínez had been the city's primary stadium. It is currently the home of the Barranquilla F.C. soccer team, which plays in the Colombian second division. History The project was conceived on 1932, because that year the National Games of Colombia were to be made in Barranquilla and was built in the ground that occupied the "Estadio Juana de Arco". Club Deportivo Popular Junior F.C. S.A. (), commonly known as Junior de Barranquilla, by its old name Atlético Junior, or simply as Junior, is a Colombian professional football team based in Barranquilla, that currently plays in the Categoría Primera A. Junior is the main Caribbean team in the top flight of Colombian football. In present day they are sitting in the 25th place in best South American team as of 2022. Categoría Primera B, commonly referred to as Torneo BetPlay Dimayor due to sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay (formerly ''Torneo Águila''), is the second-division football league in Colombia. Format DIMAYOR has applied a new format from 2015 onwards because of the expansion to 20 teams in the Primera A tournament. The league will no longer have Apertura and Finalización seasons but rather a yearlong tournament with home and away games. The first phase of the tournament is everyone against everyone home and away games. The second is a two-groups phase with the 8 top teams from the season who play each other to determine the winners of each group. The winners of the two groups are both promoted to the Primera A and play the final in home and away games to determine the champion of the season. 2022 Categoría Primera B Season
The 2022 Categoría Primera B season (officially known as the 2022 Torneo BetPlay Dimayor season for sponsorship reasons) was the 33rd season of the Categoría Primera B since its founding as Colombia's second division football league. The season began on 22 January and ended on 29 November 2022. Boyacá Chicó were the champions, winning their third Primera B title as well as promotion to the top flight by defeating Atlético Huila by a 3–0 score on aggregate in the season's Grand Final. Atlético Huila claimed the other promotion berth, defeating Deportes Quindío in the promotion play-off by a 2–1 aggregate score.
