The Barracudas de Montpellier are a French baseball team in French Division 1 Baseball Championship based in Montpellier, Hérault. They were founded in 1985. The team plays its home games at Veyrassi Sports Complex on the northern edge of the city of Montpellier. French Division 1 Baseball Championship
The Division Élite is the highest level of Baseball in France. Its clubs compete for the Championnat de France de baseball. Organization It is an eight-team league that plays a 28-game schedule on weekends, with the season running from late March to early October. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs with the two first advancing directly to the semifinals. Teams ranked 3 to 6 play a best-of-five qualification for the semi-finals where they join the first two of the season. Semi-finals and finals are also played to the best-of-five. The league follows a promotion and relegation system where the last of the regular season gets to the Nationale 1 while the second-last play a barrage to the N1 finalist for a spot in the next Élite season. Greg Hamilton
Greg Hamilton is a Canadian baseball player, coach and executive. Hamilton was born in Toronto, Ontario, and grew up in Peterborough, Ontario. He played hockey as a freshman at Princeton University, then became a pitcher for the baseball team. Hamilton was on the Ivy League champions in 1991. He also was assistant coach for two years at Princeton. In 1992, Hamilton was hired as the pitching coach for Team Canada. He got a job as pitching coach and GM of the Barracudas de Montpellier of Division Élite in France in 1993 and helped the team to three titles in a row, their most successful run to date (as of 2007). Part of his success came from his recruitment of Jeff Zimmerman, who became the most notable player to emerge from the French league in the 20th century. Jeff Zimmerman
Jeffrey Ross Zimmerman (born August 9, 1972) is a Canadian former professional baseball pitcher. He pitched in Major League Baseball from 1999 to 2001 for the Texas Rangers. Baseball career Independent baseball Zimmerman played baseball in the French Elite League for one season with the Barracudas de Montpellier. In 1996, he pitched for the Canadian national baseball team; they failed to qualify for the Olympics. After taking some time off from baseball to earn his Master of Business Administration degree at Simon Fraser University, he played with the independent Northern League's Winnipeg Goldeyes in 1997.
