Baron Remnant
Baron Remnant, of Wenhaston in the County of Suffolk, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 26 June 1928 for the Conservative politician Sir James Remnant, 1st Baronet, who had previously represented Holborn in the House of Commons. He had already been created a Baronet, of Wenhaston in the County of Suffolk, on 14 July 1917. the titles are held by his great-grandson, the fourth Baron, who succeeded his father in that year. Wenhaston
Wenhaston is a village situated to the south of the River Blyth in northeastern Suffolk, England. In 2018 it had an estimated population of 563. History Roman coins, pottery and building materials unearthed in local fields indicate the existence of a settlement at Wenhaston from the first century AD, and indeed this was probably a market of some importance between 80 and 350 AD. The first written record of its existence is to be found in the Domesday Book of 1086, when it was noted that the village of ''Wenadestuna'' possessed a mill, a church and woodland sufficient to feed 16 hogs. Suffolk () is a ceremonial county of England in East Anglia. It borders Norfolk to the north, Cambridgeshire to the west and Essex to the south; the North Sea lies to the east. James Remnant, 1st Baron Remnant
James Farquharson Remnant, 1st Baron Remnant, (13 February 1862 – 30 January 1933), known as Sir James Remnant, 1st Baronet, from 1917 to 1928, was a British Conservative politician. Biography Remnant was the son of Frederick William Remnant of Southwold, Suffolk. He was educated at Harrow School and at Magdalen College, Oxford (1880–83), and was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1886. From 1892 to 1901 he represented Holborn in the London County Council as a Moderate, and was chairman of the Theatres Committee of the council. He was elected unopposed to the House of Commons at a by-election in March 1900 as the member of parliament (MP) for Holborn, a seat he held until 1928. Robert John Farquharson Remnant, 2nd Baron Remnant MBE (29 March 1895 – 4 June 1967) was an English cricketer, active from 1920 to 1936. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler, he made three appearances in first-class cricket but was mostly associated with minor counties cricket. The son of James Remnant, 1st Baron Remnant, Remnant was born at Westminster, London. He was educated at Eton College and later attended Magdalen College, Oxford. Remnant served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment during the First World War, reaching the rank of major. He made his debut in minor counties cricket for Berkshire following the war in 1920 against Hertfordshire at Watford. James Wogan Remnant, 3rd Baron Remnant, (30 October 1930 – 4 March 2022) was a British hereditary peer and banker. Biography Remnant was born on 30 October 1930. He was educated at Eton College, before qualifying as a chartered accountant with Touche Ross, where he became a partner from 1958 to 1970. In 1965, he was appointed to the board of the English, Scottish & Australian Bank, serving until that bank's merger into the ANZ (bank), Australia and New Zealand Banking Group in 1969.
