Barnsley Cricket Club
Barnsley Woolley Miners Cricket Club members play in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier Leaguebr> the club won the league title in 2006 for the first time in its history. The club is based at Shaw Lane (Cricket Ground), which hosted four Benson and Hedges Cup ties in the 1970s and one first class match between Yorkshire and an All England XI in the 19th century. Many famous cricketers began their careers at Barnsley, notably Geoffrey Boycott and Harold Dennis '' Dickie'' Bird while chat show host Michael Parkinson also batted for the team. They are now all vice presidents of the club while other players to have played for Barnsley in recent years include Arnie Sidebottom, Steve Oldham, Graham Stevenson, Martyn Moxon, Darren Gough, Mark Beardshall, Peter Heseltine, Alex Morris, Azeem Rafiq, Gary Ballance, and Oliver Hannon-Dalby. Yorkshire ECB County Premier League
The Yorkshire ECB County Premier League was the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in Yorkshire, England, and between 1999 and 2015 was a designated ECB Premier League. The competing teams in 2015, which was the league's last season, were: Appleby Frodingham, Barnsley, Castleford, Cleethorpes, Doncaster Town, Driffield Town, Harrogate, Hull, Rotherham Town, Sheffield Collegiate, Sheffield United, York, and Yorkshire CCC Academy. After the 2015 season, the league was reconfigured to form the basis of two new regionalised leagues. Peter Heseltine
Peter Anthony William Heseltine (born 5 April 1965) is a former English cricketer. Heseltine was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born at Barnsley, Yorkshire. Heseltine made his first-class debut for Sussex against the touring Pakistanis in 1987. He made nineteen further first-class appearances for the county, the last of which came against Surrey in the 1988 County Championship. In his twenty first-class appearances, he took 22 wickets at an average of 48.59, with best figures of 3/33. With the bat, he scored a total of 186 runs at a batting average of 10.94, with a high score of 26. He made three List A appearances for Sussex during the course of the 1987 season, twice against Surrey and once against Northamptonshire. South Yorkshire Cricket League
The Yorkshire South Premier League was formed in early 2016, as part of the restructuring of club cricket in Yorkshire, and is an ECB Premier League. Of the twelve initial teams competing, seven came from the now disbanded Yorkshire ECB County Premier League (Appleby Frodingham, Barnsley, Cleethorpes, Doncaster Town, Rotherham Town, Sheffield and Phoenix United, and Sheffield Collegiate), four from the South Yorkshire Premier League (Aston Hall, Treeton, Whitley Hall and Wickersley Old Village) and one from the Central Yorkshire League (Wakefield Thornes). The League headquarters is based in Bircotes, Doncaster. Oliver James Hannon-Dalby (born 20 June 1989) is an English cricketer, currently with Warwickshire having previously played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. He is a left-handed batsman and a right arm medium-fast bowler. Hannon-Dalby was a graduate of the Yorkshire Cricket Academy. Gary Ballance
Gary Simon Ballance (born 22 November 1989) is a Zimbabwean cricketer who also represented England internationally until 2017, and represents Zimbabwe from 2022 onwards. He is a left-handed batsman and a leg break bowler, who last played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. He was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. Ballance first played in the Second XI Championship in 2006, having made five appearances for Zimbabwe in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup, in which the team finished in sixth place. In the final match for the team, Ballance scored a half-century, gaining notice from Derbyshire and earned the chance to sign for the team in 2006. Azeem Rafiq ( ur, عظیم رفیق; born 27 February 1991) is a British Asian cricketer who played professionally in England for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. A right arm off-spin bowler, Rafiq played for the county between 2008 and 2014 and 2016 and 2018, making his senior debut at the age of 17. Alex Morris (born Alexander Corfield Morris, 4 October 1977 in Barnsley, West Yorkshire, England) is an English former first-class cricketer. He was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pace bowler, who, during his eight years in first-class cricket played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Hampshire. Between 1994 and 1996, Morris played in thirteen Youth Test matches for England Under-19s, for whom he scored a half-century in his debut innings. Mark Beardshall (born 10 January 1962 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derbyshire in 1987. Debuting in the Second XI Championship two years previously for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Yorkshire, Beardshall soon moved to play for the Peakites, for whom he debuted with just short of a half-century in May 1987. Benson And Hedges Cup
The Benson & Hedges Cup was a one-day cricket competition for first-class counties in England and Wales that was held from 1972 to 2002, one of cricket's longest sponsorship deals. It was the third major one-day competition established in England and Wales after the Sunday League and the Gillette Cup. Traditionally a 'big day out' for the finalist's supporters, it was the less prestigious of the two cups. It began as a 55 over a side game, but was later reduced to 50. The winning team in the first cup final in 1972, Leicestershire won £2,500, the losing finalists Yorkshire £1,000 and Chris Balderstone, winner of the man of the match – the coveted 'Gold Award' – £100.
