''Barney'' is a British animated children's television series that aired on BBC One from 27 December 1988 to 26 April 1989. It also aired on Cartoon Network as part of their anthology series for younger children called ''Small World'' in the United States and Latin America. ''Barney & Friends'' is an American children's television series targeted at young children aged 2–7, created by Sheryl Leach. The series premiered on PBS on April 6, 1992. The series features the title character Barney, a purple anthropomorphic '' Tyrannosaurus rex'' who conveys educational messages through songs and small dance routines with a friendly, huggable and optimistic attitude. The series ended on November 2, 2010, although new videos were still released on various dates after the last episode aired. Reruns aired on Sprout from 2005 until 2015, and from December 17, 2018, onward on Sprout's successor network, Universal Kids. In 2015, a revival was announced to premiere in 2017 but was delayed into an undated launch. Timothy Julian Brooke-Taylor OBE (17 July 194012 April 2020) was an English actor and comedian best known as a member of The Goodies. He became active in performing in comedy sketches while at the University of Cambridge and became president of the Footlights, touring internationally with its revue in 1964. Becoming more widely known to the public for his work on BBC Radio with '' I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again'', he moved into television with '' At Last the 1948 Show'', working together with old Cambridge friends John Cleese and Graham Chapman.
