Barney's Hungry Cousin
''Barney's Hungry Cousin'' is a 1953 MGM cartoon featuring Barney Bear. It is the 19th ''Barney Bear'' short. This cartoon is the first known mention of Jellystone National Park, which would go on to become the home of Hanna-Barbera's cartoon star Yogi Bear—who, like the title character in this short, has a penchant for stealing picnic baskets. Plot As Barney Bear arrives at Jellystone National Park for a picnic, he is spotted by a resident wild bear. The bear quickly removes and buries all the "Do Not Feed The Bears" signs and proceeds to lay out a welcoming area for the unsuspecting Barney. As soon as Barney settles down to eat his stash, the wild bear keeps on stealing the food before Barney even has a chance to bite into it. Barney tries his best to rid himself of the hungry bear, including driving to the top of a giant tree, feeding the bear dynamite, and throwing him off a cliff, chained inside a telephone booth. Dick Lundy (animator)
Richard James Lundy (August 14, 1907 – April 7, 1990) was an American animator and film director who worked at several animation studios including The Walt Disney Company, MGM, and Hanna-Barbera. Lundy was a pioneer of personality animation and is best remembered as one of the creators of Donald Duck. Throughout his career he worked as a primary animator on at least 60 films, both short and feature-length, and directed 51 shorts. Early life Lundy was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to James and Minnie Lundy, their only child. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Detroit, where Lundy's father worked as an inspector for the Burroughs Adding machine Company. When Lundy was ten years old, his parents separated and he and his mother went to live in Port Huron north of Detroit. They later moved back to the city where Lundy's mother worked as a waitress. ''Goggle Fishing Bear'' is a 1949 MGM cartoon, featuring Barney Bear who attempts to go goggle fishing, with the aid of a sea lion. It is the 16th Barney Bear cartoon and the last Barney Bear cartoon to be supervised by Michael Lah and Preston Blair. Plot The cartoon starts with Barney driving a motor boat at sea, where he attempts to fish. After dropping the anchor, a sea lion assumes that they are playing catch and brings the anchor back. Barney tricks the sea lion into swimming the other way, by pretending to throw the anchor in one direction, then throwing it in another. Only his foot was tied to the rope, which causes Barney to fall in the sea, but the sea lion saves him. A fish is stuck in Barney's suit, in which the sea lion, in an attempt to catch the fish with a trident, pokes Barney's backside. The Big Cartoon DataBase (or BCDB for short) is an online database of information about animated cartoons, animated feature films, animated television shows, and cartoon shorts. The BCDB project began in 1997 as a list of Disney animated features on creator Dave Koch's local computer. In response to increasing interest in the material, the database went online in 1998 as a searchable resource dedicated to compiling information about cartoons, including production details such as voice actors, producers, and directors, as well as plot summaries and user reviews of cartoons. In 2003, BCDB became a 501(c) non-profit corporation. On June 24, 2009, it was announced by creator Dave Koch on his BCDB forums that the site had 100,000 titles.
