Barking Abbey Basketball Academy
The Barking Abbey Basketball Academy is an elite 16–19 basketball academy, based at Barking Abbey School in London, England. History The school established the basketball academy in 2005, after recognising the lack of elite development opportunities for young players in Britain. Almost unique in British basketball and more similar in structure to a European-style system, the full-time academy is a leading developer of young British talent, many of whom go on to further develop in the NCAA or European academies. The academy hosted the Nike Junior Euroleague Invitational Tournament in 2010, and was named as the first Great Britain Regional Institute of Basketball in 2011. The National Basketball League, or NBL for short, is a league competition representing semi-professional and amateur basketball clubs from England and Wales. It forms levels 2 to 4 on the British basketball pyramid, in line with the Scottish Basketball Championship, sitting directly below the top tier British Basketball League. The 2019–20 season of the English Men's National Basketball League, known as the NBL, was the 48th edition of the league. Solent Kestrels were league champions for the second consecutive year. Following the 2018–19 season, the league structure was reorganised. Division 2 was regionalised into North and South regions, while Divisions 3 and 4 were merged to form 5 regional leagues.
