Barend Pieterse
Barend Pieterse (born 23 January 1979) is a South African former rugby union footballer and currently the lineout coach of the and Southern Kings. Career He started playing his rugby for the in 2001. He played for them until 2004, when he moved to the . Between 2004 and 2010, he also frequently represented the Cats and Cheetahs franchises in the Super Rugby competition. This culminated in a call-up to the South Africa national rugby union team, becoming Springbok No 793. However, he never played a test match for the Springboks, his only appearance was in the 5–22 defeat against the Barbarians in London on 1 December 2007, when he scored the only try of the game for the visitors. He joined the for the 2011 season, making 16 appearances. Virginia, Free State
Virginia is a gold mining town located in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality and on goldfields of the Free State province in South Africa about 140 km (90 mi) northeast of Bloemfontein the provincial capital. History In 1890, two railway surveyors from the state of Virginia in the United States etched the name of their birthplace on a boulder near the farm Merriespruit. When a railway siding was eventually established at this spot, the name was adopted, and it stuck after the discovery of gold in 1949 which resulted in a mushrooming settlement on the banks of the Sand River. In 1988 the Sand River burst its banks and flooded parts of the town. In 1994 the Merriespruit tailings dam disaster occurred just outside Virginia, killing seventeen people. The 2012 Currie Cup First Division was contested from 30 June to 13 October 2012. The tournament (also known as the Absa Currie Cup First Division for sponsorship reasons) is the second tier of South Africa's premier domestic rugby union competition, featuring teams representing either entire provinces or substantial regions within provinces. The 2012 Vodacom Cup was played between 10 March and 18 May 2012 and was the 15th edition of this annual domestic cup competition. The Vodacom Cup is played between rugby union teams in South Africa from the Currie Cup Premier and First Divisions, as well as an invitational team, the from Argentina.
