Bare-knuckle Boxing
Bare-knuckle boxing (or simply bare-knuckle) is a combat sport which involves two individuals throwing punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time without any boxing gloves or other form of padding on their hands. It is a regulated sport across the world. The difference between street fighting and a bare-knuckle boxing match is that the latter has an accepted set of rules, such as not striking a downed opponent. The rules that provided the foundation for bare-knuckle boxing for much of the 18th and 19th centuries were the London Prize Ring Rules. By the late 19th century, professional boxing moved from bare-knuckle to using boxing gloves. The last major world heavyweight championship happened in 1889 and was held by John L. Sullivan. The American '' National Police Gazette'' magazine was recognized as sanctioning the world championship titles. ''Bare Knuckles'' is a 1977 blaxploitation film, starring Robert Viharo, Sherry Jackson and Gloria Hendry. The film was written and directed by Don Edmonds. Plot L.A. bounty hunter, Zachary Kane, is on the hunt for a masked serial killer on the loose. Production Director Edmonds said he didn't get any permits for the movie, it was made for $25,000 with another $25,000 spent for goods and services. Legacy It is one of the films that have inspired Quentin Tarantino, and it was selected by Tarantino himself to be shown at his Los Angeles Grindhouse Festival in 2007. In May 2008, it was being shown by Robert Viharo's son, Will, as part of his long-running Thrillville theater program. Hip-hop duo Gangrene sampled the film's opening theme for the song "Breathing Down Yo Neck", featuring rapper MED, on their debut album Gutter Water. ''Streets of Rage'' is a series of side-scrolling beat 'em up video games, centering on the efforts of several ex-police vigilantes trying to rid a fictional, large American city from a crime syndicate that has corrupted its local government. The first three games in the franchise were developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis in the early 1990s and have since been ported and re-released on various platforms. In 2011, a free to download fan version entitled ''Streets of Rage Remake'', which combined all three games plus the American and Japanese versions together, along with featuring some unique exclusives to the game was released by Bomber Games (stylized as BoMbErGaMeS). Vale Tudo (; en, Everything Goes/Everything Allowed), also known No Holds Barred (NHB) in the United States, is an unarmed, full-contact combat sport with relatively few rules. It became popular in Brazil during the 20th century and would eventually evolve into modern Mixed martial arts (MMA). For years "Vale Tudo" was used as a synonym for MMA in Brazil, but the term fell into disuse due to the emergence of stricter rules and the influence of the media to have a more "civilized" name. It is now used to refer to an early, more rules-free stage of the modern sport. Vale Tudo initially started as an informal ruleset for fighters from different martial arts to fight each other.
