Barcelona Municipal Band
Founded in 1886 by Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Municipal Band is a musical institution going back a long way. Since 2007, it has been the resident band at the Barcelona Auditorium (L'Auditori), where it offers a fixed season of concerts and where it develops projects in partnership with artists and groups forming part of the international scene as well as those from the local sphere. The resident conductor since 2008 has been the Catalan composer and conductor Salvador Brotons. History Precedents: 14th to 20th centuries There are records going back to the 14th century of the presence of instrumental groups accompanying official municipal events and celebrations in Barcelona, often under the name of ‘city music’. L'Auditori
L'Auditori () is a modern building of 42,000 square metres designed by the architect Rafael Moneo, opened on 22 March 1999, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is in the centre of the new pole of urban development of Plaça de les Glòries, which brings together the three widest and longest avenues in the city (Diagonal, Gran Via and Meridiana) near the old centre of the city, its ‘Avenue’, next to the National Theatre, Glòries junction, the opening of the Diagonal on to the sea, district 22@ and the Forum area. The building combines sober external modernity with Sala 1 Pau Casals for 2,200 spectators, Sala 2 Oriol Martorell, with 600 places and Sala 3 Tete Montoliu with 400 places. Plaça Sant Jaume
The Plaça de Sant Jaume (, in English "Saint James's Square") is a square at the center of the Old City of Barcelona and the administrative heart of both the city and surrounding Catalonia. This is because the Palace of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the City Hall are located here across from one another. This square's origin stems from the early-19th century, when the new main façade of City Hall was built and the former church of Sant Jaume was demolished. Elisenda Fábregas
Elisenda Fábregas (born 1955 in Terrassa, Province of Barcelona, Spain) is a Spanish/American Composer. Biography Fábregas studied piano at the Conservatory of Barcelona until 1978. She came to the USA and studied for her bachelor's and master's degree (1983) in piano performance at Juilliard School of Music with Beveridge Webster and Joseff Raieff and Samuel Sanders. She made her debut in the Carnegie Recital Hall in 1983. She received doctorates from Columbia University Teachers College in education (1992) and Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in music composition (2011). As a pianist she performed besides in Spain, in various countries, England, Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, and the United States. In 2021 she lives in Seoul, South Korea, and is working as invited professor of music and cultural studies at Kyung Hee University. Jordi Cervelló
Jordi Cervelló i Garriga (18 October 1935 – 2 September 2022) was a Catalan composer. Cervelló was born in Barcelona on 18 October 1935. He studied violin with Joan Massià and composition with Josep M. Roma. Later he went to Rome, Milan, Siena and Salzburg. He has done important work as a professor at Badalona Conservatory from 1982 to 1996 and as author of the ''Treatise on the Fundamental Principles of Violin Technique''. He was a critic at El País newspaper. In 2006 he received the Cross of St. George and in 2010 the National Music Prize from the Catalan Government. He died from pneumonia on 2 September 2022, at the age of 86. The Festival Grec de Barcelona (or Grec Festival of Barcelona) is an international theatre, dance, music and circus festival. Over the course of its history, this long-standing event has become a major summer attraction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The festival takes its name from its main venue: an open-air theatre (the Teatre Grec) built on Mount Montjuïc. La Mercè () is the annual festival ( ca, festa major) of the city of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. It has been an official city holiday since 1871, when the local government first organized a program of special activities to observe the Roman Catholic feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, ''La Mare de Déu de la Mercè'' in Catalan language, Catalan. Ricard Lamote De Grignon
Ricard Lamote de Grignon i Ribas (; 25 September 1899 – 5 February 1962) was a Catalan Spanish composer and orchestral conductor. Ricard Lamote de Grignon was born and died in Barcelona. He was the only son of the composer Joan Lamote de Grignon and Florentina Ribas. He was initiated into the world of music by his father, then later studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu and at the Academia Marshall, both in Barcelona. At the age of 20 he joined the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the Gran Teatre del Liceu as a cellist. In 1930 he was appointed director of the Girona Symphony Orchestra and in 1932 he won the appointment as assistant conductor of the Barcelona Municipal Band.
