Barbie's Cradle
Barbie's Cradle was a Filipino alternative rock band, formed in 1998 by the remaining members of Barbie Almalbis' previous band, Hungry Young Poets, and disbanded in 2005 when Almalbis took up a solo career. The band released three albums, ''Barbie's Cradle'', ''Music from the Buffet Table'', and ''Playing in the Fields'', the last two of which featured lyrics notable for their Christian-oriented content, brought about by personal changes in the life of songwriter Almalbis. Aside from Almalbis, members over the years included Rommel de la Cruz who played bass throughout the band's existence; drummers Franklin Benitez and Wendell Garcia, who were part of the band before and after the release of ''Music from the Buffet Table'' respectively, and Kakoi Legaspi, who took up a second guitar position just prior to the band's dissolution in 2005. Yvette Barbra Hontiveros Almalbis-Honasan (born August 26, 1977), better known as Barbie Almalbis, is a Filipino singer-songwriter. Formerly the lead singer of the bands Hungry Young Poets and Barbie's Cradle, she pursued a solo career in 2005, releasing her self-titled compilation album, ''Barbie: The Singles''. In 2006, she released her debut solo album, ''Parade''. Her music is characterised by a rather quirky, but endearing vocal style, and guitar work. Almabis is a capable guitarist in her own right and a painter; she is a born-again Christian and is married to Martin Honasan (the son of Sen. Gringo Honasan), a painter and scion of a Philippine political family. The couple named their firstborn Noa Stina. Her sister-in-law is Kai Honasan who does keyboards and vocals on the band Autotelic. She is also cousins with Pia and Risa Hontiveros. The NU Rock Awards was an annual accolade presented from 1994 to 2010 by the Metro Manila-based radio station NU 107, known for prominent performances by the most influential pinoy rock artists of each year. History The first NU 107 Rock Awards was held at The Music Hall in Annapolis St., Greenhills on November 15, 1994. Originally meant to be a small gathering to give recognition to the rock community, it slowly became a much anticipated annual event. The Awit Awards are music awards in the Philippines given annually by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) to recognize the outstanding achievements in the music industry. The word "Awit" means "song" literally in Filipino. The first awards were given in 1969 at a ceremony in Makati. After three awards ceremonies were held, the Awit Awards were discontinued in 1972. In 1988, PARI brought back the awards and today, the organization still handles these awards. The Philippine Red Cross (PRC; fil, Krus na Pula ng Pilipinas) is a non-profit humanitarian organization and a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
