Barbara M. Leonard (née Martin; June 12, 1924 – January 24, 2013) was an American Republican politician. She was born in Newport in 1924. She was a candidate for the United States Senate The United States Senate is the upper chamber of the United States Congress, with the House of Representatives being the lower chamber. She served as the Secretary of State of Rhode Island from 1993-95 as a Republican. Leonard served on several state boards and commissions, including the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, the state's Port Authority and the state Advisory Committee on Refugee Resettlement. Classes Of United States Senators
The 100 seats in the United States Senate are divided into three classes for the purpose of determining which seats will be up for election in any two-year cycle, with only one class being up for election at a time. With senators being elected to fixed terms of six years, the classes allow about a third of the seats to be up for election in any presidential or midterm election year instead of having all 100 be up for election at the same time every six years. The seats are also divided in such a way that any given state's two senators are in different classes so that each seat's term ends in different years. Claudine Schneider
Claudine Schneider (née Cmarada; born March 25, 1947) is an American economist and former politician who served as a Republican U.S. representative from Rhode Island. She was the first, and to date only, woman elected to Congress from Rhode Island. She is the founder of Republicans for Integrity, which describes itself as a network of "Republican former Members of Congress who feel compelled to remind Republican voters about the fundamentals of he Republicanparty and to provide the facts about incumbents' voting records." Life and career Schneider was born Claudine Cmarada in Clairton, Pennsylvania. On her father's side, she is of Slovak descent. Schneider attended parochial schools.
