Barbara Gervin-Hawkins
Barbara Gervin Hawkins (born April 3, 1954) is an American politician. She is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing the 120th District. She defeated incumbent Laura Thompson, an independent, in the November 2016 general election. Biography Gervin-Hawkins was raised in Michigan by a single mother of six. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1975 with a degree in accounting. Her first job was at the Ford Motor Company. She moved to San Antonio, Texas, after her brother, professional basketball player George Gervin, who played for the NBA's San Antonio Spurs The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio. Laura Thompson (politician)
Laura Thompson is a former Independent member of the Texas House of Representatives. She represented District 120 after winning a special election on August 2, 2016, after former state representative Ruth McClendon retired. In the November 2016 general election, she ran for election to a full term but was defeated by Barbara Gervin-Hawkins. Thompson's brief tenure in the Texas House ended on January 9, 2017. Thompson was the first Independent to serve in the Texas Legislature in over fifty years. George Gervin
George Gervin ( ; born April 27, 1952), nicknamed "the Iceman", is an American former professional basketball player who played in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Virginia Squires, San Antonio Spurs, and Chicago Bulls. Gervin averaged at least 14 points per game in all 14 of his ABA and NBA seasons, and finished with an NBA career average of 26.2 points per game. In 1996, Gervin was named as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History, and in 2021, Gervin was named as one of the 75 greatest players in NBA history.
