Barbados Davis Cup Team
The Barbados national tennis team represents Barbados in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Barbados Tennis Association. History Barbados competed in its first Davis Cup in 1990. Barbadian players previously competed on the Caribbean/West Indies team. In 1990, Barbados debuted in Group II of the Americas Zone (the lowest tier at that time). In 2014, they upset Mexico to advance to Group I of the Americas Zone for the first time in their history. They were relegated in 2016, but managed promotion back into Group I in 2017. Haydn Lewis (born 2 January 1986) is a professional Barbadian tennis player. 2016 Davis Cup
The 2016 Davis Cup was the 105th edition of the Davis Cup, a tournament between national teams in men's tennis. It was sponsored by BNP Paribas. From this season's tournament the deciding set of each match would be settled by a tiebreak at 6 games all rather than playing an advantage set until a player or a team were two games clear. Darian King
Darian King (born 26 April 1992 in Bridgetown) is a Barbadian tennis player. He has a career-high Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) singles ranking of world No. 106 achieved on 8 May 2017, and a career-high ATP doubles ranking of No. 156 achieved on 21 October 2019. He has represented Barbados at the Davis Cup and at the 2016 Olympics. His first Grand Slam appearance came at the 2017 US Open, where he lost to fourth seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets. Personal life King was born on April 26, 1992 in Bridgetown, Barbados where he currently resides. His father played field hockey and his mother played net ball and died of pancreatic cancer in 2010.
