Banzai Battalion
''Banzai Battalion'' are a group of recurring characters, created by John Wagner, that appear in ''2000 AD (comic), 2000 AD''. They are tiny gardening robots designed as a bug-fighting military outfit that have been deployed in a garden in Mega-City One where their adventures initially involved Judge Dredd, although in their more recent stories they have branched out into their own series. John Wagner
John Wagner (born 1949) is an American-born British comics writer. Alongside Pat Mills, he helped revitalise British comics in the 1970s, and continues to be active in the British comics industry, occasionally also working in American comics. He is best known as the co-creator, with artist Carlos Ezquerra, of the character Judge Dredd. Wagner started his career in editorial with D. C. Thomson & Co. in the late 1960s before becoming a freelance writer and a staff editor at IPC in the 1970s. He has worked in children's humour and girls' adventure comics, but is most notable for his boys' adventure comics; he helped launch '' Battle Picture Weekly'' (1975), for which he wrote "Darkie's Mob", and '' 2000 AD'' (1977), for which he created numerous characters, including Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Robo-Hunter and Button Man. Ian Gibson (artist)
Ian Gibson (born 1946) is a British comic book artist, best known for his 1980s black-and-white work for '' 2000 AD'', especially as the main artist on '' Robo-Hunter'' and '' The Ballad of Halo Jones'', as well as his long run on ''Judge Dredd''. Biography His imaginative cartoonish, and intricately detailed style (especially in black and white strips) lends itself best to humorous strips, such as '' Robo-Hunter'', although his work on the Alan Moore-penned '' The Ballad of Halo Jones'' shows that he is capable of telling a serious story. In the US, Gibson made a good name for himself drawing Mister Miracle for DC Comics in the 1980s. Subsequently he started work on ''Meta 4'', an innovative science fiction/superhero comic written by Stefan Petrucha. This series was cut short when publisher First Comics went out of business. Steve Roberts (comics)
Steve Roberts is a British comics artist, best known for his work on the long-running humour strip '' Bec & Kawl'' (written by Simon Spurrier). His iconic style, unusual in a comic known mainly for a combination of realistic techniques and action-packed stories, makes him well-suited for funny strips, and he has collaborated with Dan Abnett on a number of ''Sinister Dexter'' comedy one-offs. Biography Roberts was originally encouraged in his comics career by Simon Davis, who has continued to act as a mentor. Despite the two artists' styles being very different, they have collaborated on a number of cover images and star scans, with Davis painting over Roberts' inking work. Roberts has also worked closely with UK animation company SlinkyPics. With Ragdoll he created the animated series '' Dipdap'' for CBeebies. ''2000 AD'' is a weekly British science fiction-oriented comic magazine. As a comics anthology it serialises stories in each issue (known as "progs") and was first published by IPC Magazines in 1977, the first issue dated 26 February. Since 2000 it has been published by Rebellion Developments. ''2000 AD'' is most noted for its '' Judge Dredd'' stories, and has been contributed to by a number of artists and writers who became renowned in the field internationally, such as Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Mike McMahon, John Wagner, Alan Grant and Garth Ennis. Cam Kennedy
Campbell ("Cam") Kennedy is a Scottish comics artist. He is best known for his work on '' 2000 AD'', especially the flagship titles ''Judge Dredd'' and ''Rogue Trooper''. Biography Following work in commercial art in his hometown of Glasgow, Kennedy went freelance and worked as an illustrator on D.C. Thomson's ''Commando'', a well-known British war comic, between 1967 and 1972, before leaving comics altogether to become a professional fine artist. Kennedy's work has been described as gritty, energetic, chunky and raw. In 1978 he was lured back to comics work again, beginning by drawing the '' Fighting Mann'' (1980-81) strip for Fleetway Publications' ''Battle'' comic.
