Banner, Ohio
Banner (previously known as Vaughn's Station) is an unincorporated community in Franklin Township, Jackson County, Ohio, United States. It is located between Jackson and Oak Hill near the intersection of Clay Banner Road and Franklin Valley Road. As of 1898, the railway station here on the M&C Railroad (later B&O Railroad's "South Branch") was known as Vaughn's Station. The Banner Post Office was established on April 12, 1881 and discontinued on November 14, 1903. Baltimore And Ohio Railroad
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was the first common carrier railroad and the oldest railroad in the United States, with its first section opening in 1830. Merchants from Baltimore, which had benefited to some extent from the construction of the National Road early in the century, wanted to do business with settlers crossing the Appalachian Mountains. The railroad faced competition from several existing and proposed enterprises, including the Albany-Schenectady Turnpike, built in 1797, the Erie Canal, which opened in 1825, and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. Marietta And Cincinnati Railroad
The Marietta and Cincinnati (M&C) was one of five important east-west railroads of southern Ohio; it was later absorbed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O). Its original route ran from Marietta through Vincent, Athens, Hamden, Chillicothe, Greenfield, Blanchester, and Loveland. It had two main branches: Blanchester to Hillsboro, which was originally part of the Hillsboro and Cincinnati Railroad; and Hamden to Portsmouth, Ohio, originally part of the Scioto and Hocking Valley Railroad. Oak Hill is a village in Jackson County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,551 at the 2010 census. Jackson, Ohio
Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Ohio, United States approximately 27 mi (43 km) SE of Chillicothe. The population was 6,239 at the 2020 census. History Established in 1817, residents named the town after Andrew Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812, and an eventual president of the United States. The community grew slowly, having only 297 inhabitants in 1840. In 1846, Jackson contained four churches, about seven stores, and a single newspaper office.
