Banna (Birdoswald)
Birdoswald Roman Fort was known as ''Banna'' ("horn" in Celtic) in Roman times, reflecting the geography of the site on a triangular spur of land bounded by cliffs to the south and east commanding a broad meander of the River Irthing in Cumbria below. It lies towards the western end of Hadrian's Wall and is one of the best preserved of the 16 forts along the wall. It is also attached to the longest surviving stretch of Hadrian's Wall. Cumbria County Council were responsible for the management of Birdoswald fort from 1984 until the end of 2004, when English Heritage assumed responsibility. History This western part of Hadrian's Wall was originally built using turf starting from 122 AD. The stone fort was built some time after the wall, in the usual playing card shape, with gates to the east, west and south. Banna, officially the Municipality of Banna ( ilo, Ili ti Banna; fil, Bayan ng Banna), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 19,297 people. The word ''Banna'' was taken from the native chieftain named Bana. It was formerly known as Espiritu. Banna Strand, (Gaeilge: Trá na Beannaí) also known as Banna Beach, is situated in Ballyheigue Bay. It is an Atlantic Ocean beach extending from Ballyheigue Beach at the Blackrock in the North to Barrow Beach at its southern edge, located in County Kerry. It is located approximately 12 km (7 mi) north west of Tralee. It features sand dunes along its entire length which rise up to 12 metres (40 ft). The mountains of the Dingle Peninsula can be seen on the south west horizon. Many residents from Tralee make a trip to Banna Strand on the warmest summer days. Ban Na ( th, บ้านนา, ) is a district ('' amphoe'') in the western part of Nakhon Nayok province, central Thailand. History In the Ayutthaya era, the people of Tambon Pa Kha were elephant catchers (กองโพนช้าง), catching wild elephants to use as war elephants. Ban Na district was established in 1903, then named Tha Chang District. As the original district office in Tambon Bang O was inconvenient for transportation and prone for flooding, the government moved the office to Suwannason Road in 1965. When Nakhon Nayok Province was downgraded, the government transferred Ban Na District to Saraburi province. It became a district of Nakhon Nayok again on 9 May 1946 when the province was re-established. Om Singh Rathore (also called Shri Om Banna and Bullet Baba) is a folk deity, whose shrine and temple called Om Banna Dham is located in Pali district near Jodhpur, India, devoted to him and his motorcycle.
