Banksia Railway Station
Banksia railway station is located on the Illawarra line, serving the Sydney suburb of Banksia. It is served by Sydney Trains T4 line services. History Banksia station opened on 21 October 1906 with one island platform. In 1923, as part of the quadruplication of the Illawarra line from Wolli Creek to Rockdale, Platforms 1 and 4 were built along with an underpass. In August 2020, an upgrade to Banksia station as part of the Station Access Program was proposed. It includes the addition of lifts, heavily modified entrances, canopy extensions, and upgraded toilets. Construction began in December 2020 and was completed on 16 March 2022, and the lifts were opened on 7 April 2022. Banksia is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Banksia is located 12 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Bayside Council and is part of the St George area. History Banksia is named for Joseph Banks, a botanist on the Voyage of Discovery of James Cook which visited the nearby Botany Bay in 1770. The suburb was part of land owned by Simeon Pearce (1821–86) and his brother James Pearce in the 1850s, which extended from Rockdale to Brighton-Le-Sands. Until the late nineteenth century, the area was heavily timbered but residential development began in the 1880s. Town Hall Railway Station, Sydney
Town Hall railway station is a heritage-listed underground commuter rail station located in the centre of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. The station opened on 28 February 1932. It is named after the Sydney Town Hall, located directly above the station. History The station is built on the site of Sydney's earliest colonial cemetery, the Old Sydney Burial Ground. In 2008, part of this cemetery was being excavated from under the Town Hall. The station opened on 28 February 1932 and was built with six platforms, which were split over two levels with three platforms on each level. When the station opened, only four of the platforms were in use: platforms 1, 2 and 3 on the upper level and platform 6, served by escalators, on the lower level.
