Banketten
''Banketten'' ( eng, The Banquet) is a 1948 Swedish drama film which is directed by Hasse Ekman. Plot summary Jacob Cotten is just about to turn 60 years old and his prominent family will hold a banquet in his honour to celebrate the occasion. At this time his youngest son announce that he will not inherit his father's business and money, because he is a communist and want to make it on his own. Cottens daughter lives in a distorted marriage full of violence, arguments, abuse, and alcohol. The eldest son lives like a spoiled parasite on his rich family and has no intent to change his ways. How will the banquet go and who will inherit the business and the fortune, that both created and destroyed the Cotten family? Hasse Ekman (born Hans Gösta Ekman; 10September 191515February 2004) was a Swedish director, actor, writer and Film producer, producer for film director, film, Theatre director, stage and television director, television. Biography Hasse Ekman is probably Sweden's most successful and critically acclaimed film director from the period after Victor Sjöström, Sjöström and Mauritz Stiller, Stiller and prior to Ingmar Bergman, peaking between the mid-1940s and 1950. He was greatly influenced by filmmaker Orson Welles and also by episodic-films. His most successful film as a director is often said to be the 1950 film ''Flicka och hyacinter'' (Girl with Hyacinths), a crime/mystery drama about a young woman committing suicide by hanging herself in her apartment. Ernst Eklund (actor)
Ernst Olof Eklund (6 August 1882 – 3 August 1971) was a Swedish film actor and theatre director. He appeared in 40 films between 1914 and 1962 and was also the director of six different theatres. Biography Eklund was born at Östervåla in Uppsala County, Sweden. He began playing amateur theater in Gävle. During his career he was director of several theaters: Blancheteatern 1917–1926, Comediteatern 1923–1938, Konserthusteatern 1926–1927, Skansenteatern 1934–1940, Oscarsteatern 1938–1941 and Lisebergsteatern in Gothenburg 1947–1956. He was married to actress and theatre director Alice Eklund (1896–1983), daughter of actress Anna Hofman-Uddgren (1868–1947) and screenwriter Karl Gustaf Uddgren (1865–1927). Eva Henning (born Eva Wetlesen; 10 May 1920 – 18 April 2016) was a Swedish stage and movie actress. Career Born in Newark, New York, US, Henning was trained at the Royal Dramatic Theatre's acting school (1938–40) in Sweden and made her film debut the same year in Ragnar Arvedson's ''Gentleman att hyra''. Hilda Teresia Borgström (13 October 1871 – 2 January 1953) was a Swedish stage and film actress. Biography Born in 1871 in Stockholm, Borgström made her film debut in 1912. She starred in leading parts in Victor Sjöström's silent films ''Ingeborg Holm'' (aka ''Margaret Day'') (1913) and '' Körkarlen'' (aka ''The Phantom Carriage/The Stroke of Midnight/Thy Soul Shall Bear Witness'') in 1921. Borgström started out to be a dancer and trained at the old Royal Theatre's ballet school in Stockholm 1880–1887. Later she decided to turn to the theatre instead and studied drama. Her professional debut on stage came in 1890 at one of Albert Ranft's theatres.
