Bangor Flying Circus
Bangor Flying Circus was an American progressive rock trio from Chicago, Illinois, formed in mid-1967 and breaking up in 1969. It is notable for being formed by members of the Shadows of Knight and H.P. Lovecraft and for being a predecessor band to Madura. History Bangor Flying Circus consisted of David "Hawk" Wolinski (bass, keyboards, vocals), Alan "Addison Al" DeCarlo (guitar, vocals), and Tom Schiffour (drums), who was replaced in late 1968 by former H.P. Lovecraft member Michael Tegza (drums, percussion). Wolinski and Schiffour had previously been in the Shadows of Knight. They put out one self-titled album in 1969, which peaked at number 190 on ''Billboard'' 200. After they broke up, Wolinski and DeCarlo formed Madura, while Tegza participated in two reconfigurations of Lovecraft, a successor band to H.P. Lovecraft. Shadows Of Knight
The Shadows of Knight were an American rock band from Chicago, Illinois, that played a version of British blues influenced by their native city. When they began recording in 1965, the band's self-description was "the Stones, Animals and the Yardbirds took the Chicago blues and gave it an English interpretation. We've taken the English version of the Blues and re-added a Chicago touch," to which rock critic Richie Unterberger commented: "The Shadows of Knight's self-description was fairly accurate." History 1960s The band was formed in 1964 as simply the Shadows. In the spring of 1965, the band learned of an already existing British group, the Shadows. Madura was a 1970s rock/fusion band from Chicago. History After the breakup of Bangor Flying Circus (1969), Alan DeCarlo and Hawk Wolinski formed Madura, replacing Bangor Flying Circus drummer Michael Tegza with Ross Salomone. David "Hawk" Wolinski, previous Shadows of Knight member; Alan DeCarlo and Ross Salomone recorded two albums, produced by the Chicago producer James William Guercio. Madura often opened on tour with Chicago in 1971 and 1972. Hawk Wolinski later became a member of Rufus and Chaka Khan, and a successful producer and songwriter. Alan DeCarlo and Ross Salomone both appeared on Chicago keyboard player Robert Lamm's 1974 solo album ''Skinny Boy''. Hawk Wolinski
David James "Hawk" Wolinski (born May 13, 1948) is an American keyboardist, songwriter and record producer, best known for his work with the funk band Rufus and their lead singer Chaka Khan. Biography Wolinski grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and in the late 1960s was the keyboard player and lead singer of the band the Males, and a member of the bands Shadows of Knight and Bangor Flying Circus. When the latter band broke up he helped form the band Madura, which was produced by fellow Chicagoan James William Guercio. Guercio used Madura in his 1973 film ''Electra Glide in Blue''. In the 1960s Wolinski formed a short-lived band in Chicago called the Electric Band. They played regularly at a club called The Cellar. In the late 1970s Wolinski joined Rufus as a keyboardist and songwriter.
