Bangladeshi Cyclists
BDCyclists ( bn, বিডিসাইক্লিস্টস) is a cycling group in Bangladesh. The group was started by Mozammel Haque, a software developer, and his friends in May 2011. The group states, as one of their goals, that they aim to convert 5% of the car owning crowd of Dhaka to cycle commuters. Overview 2013–2014 In the past, the group has organized about three bicycle rides every week, titled ''Bike Friday'', ''BDC Nightriders'' and ''Josshila Saturday''. About 250 cyclists would join in the Bike Friday event. On January 24, 2014, BDCyclists organized its 100th Bike Friday. It also organizes the Critical Mass, a cycling event that is held every month in 300 cities around the world. Critical Mass (cycling)
Critical Mass is a form of direct action in which people meet at a set location and time and travel as a group through their neighbourhoods on bikes. The idea is for people to group together to make it safe for each other to ride bicycles through their streets, based on the old adage: ''there's safety in numbers''. Critical Mass events highlight the numbers of people who want to use their bike on the streets, but are usually unable to do so without risking their safety. They are a call to action to councils, governments and road planners to properly and thoughtfully design in the safety of all road users, including those who would prefer to walk and cycle, instead of prioritising motor traffic above all else. Pohela Boishakh
Pohela Boishakh ( bn, পহেলা বৈশাখ) is the first day of the Bengali calendar which is also the official calendar of Bangladesh. This festival is celebrated on 14 April in Bangladesh and 15 April in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam (Barak Valley) by Bengalis regardless of religious faith. Celebration of Pohela Boishakh traces its roots back to Mughal rule in this region and also the proclamation of tax collection reforms of Akbar.
