Bangla Academy
The Bangla Academy ( bn, বাংলা একাডেমি, ) is an autonomous institution funded by the Bangladesh government to foster the Bengali language, literature and culture, to develop and implement national language policy and to do original research in the Bengali language. Established in 1955, it is located in Burdwan House in Ramna, Dhaka, within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair. History The importance of establishing an organisation for Bengali language was first emphasised by the linguist Muhammad Shahidullah. Later, following the Language movement, on 27 April 1952, the All Party National Language Committee decided to demand establishment of an organisation for the promotion of Bengali language. Mohammad Barkatullah (author)
Mohammad Barkatullah (2 March 1898 – 2 November 1974) was a Bangladeshi writer. Barkatullah was born at village Ghorashal under Shahjadpur which was belong to Pabna district at that time. Life Barkatullah was a deputy secretary of education department of East Pakistan, later Bangladesh. Muhammad Enamul Haque
Muhammad Enamul Haque (20 September 1902 – 16 February 1982) was a Bangladeshi researcher, litterateur and educationist. Early life and education Haque was born on 20 September 1902 in Bakhtpur, Fatikchhari Upazila, Chittagong District, Bengal Presidency, British India. He studied at Raozan High School. As a student he met Ismail Hossain Shiraji who inspired him with nationalism. In 1923, he passed the Entrance Examination. He was awarded a Mohsin scholarship. In 1925, he passed the FA Examination from Chittagong College. He completed his undergraduate in Arabic in 1927 and Masters in 1929 in Oriental languages from the University of Calcutta. From 1929 to 1935, he completed his PhD research on Sufism in Bengal under Suniti Kumar Chatterji. Career Haque started working in the Writers Building in Kolkata as a translator. Monzur-I-Mowla
Monzur-I-Mowla (1 October 1940 – 20 December 2020) was a Bangladeshi author, poet and former director general of Bangla Academy. He was elected director general of Bangla Academy from 1982 to 1986. His list of poetry books include ''Nimagna'', ''Ki Kore Pabo'', ''Mati Here Jai'', ''Shawla o Dinghi'', ''Pure Pure'', ''Ai din Mitthey'', ''Bandana Bristir'' and ''Peyecho Ki''. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2007 and Bangla Academy Rabindra Award in 2014. Career Monzur-I-Mowla was born in 1940. Mazharul Islam (poet)
Mazharul Islam (1 July 1929 – 14 November 2003) was a Bangladeshi poet, folklorist, and academic. He served as the vice-chancellor of the University of Rajshahi. In 1972, he was appointed as the first Director General of Bangla Academy. Education and career Islam obtained his PhD in Bengali literature in 1958 and another PhD in folklore studies from Indiana University in 1963. Syed Farrukh Ahmad ( bn, সৈয়দ ফররুখ আহমদ; 10 June 1918 – 19 October 1974), later simply known as Farrukh Ahmad, was a Bangladeshi poet and author.
