Bandya Station
Bandya Station, often referred to as Bandya, is a pastoral lease that operates as a sheep station. It is located about north of Laverton and north west of Leinster in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. Established in the early 1900s the property was initially known as Salt Soak Station. An early part owner was J. MacCalmont who also owned Laverton Downs Station. In 1927, W. C. Hill was the owner of the property. In 1928 Bandya occupied an area of over and was owned by W. C. Hill. It was stocked with 2,000 cattle and 3,000 sheep. In the 1980s the property was running an average flock size of 15,000 sheep. The Hill family, who also owned Mount Weld Station located to the north of Bandya, were experiencing difficulties with feral dogs attacking stock on the property. Laverton, originally known as British Flag, is a town in the Goldfields region of Western Australia, and the centre of administration for the Shire of Laverton. The town of Laverton is located at the western edge of the Great Victoria Desert, north-northeast of the state capital, Perth, and east-northeast of the town of Leonora, with an elevation of . Leinster, Western Australia
Leinster is a town in the northern Goldfields area of Western Australia. It is east of the Goldfields Highway in the Shire of Leonora, and northeast of the state capital, Perth. The town was established in 1976 by Agnew Mining, initially as a dormitory town for miners working in the nearby Perseverance and Rockys Reward nickel mines and Agnew gold mines. It was named for the nearby Leinster Downs station. Facilities at Leinster include a supermarket, service station, community school, day care centre, medical centre and tavern. Sporting facilities include an indoor sports centre, a Olympic sized pool and a baby pool, squash courts, BMX track, football and cricket oval, and an 18-hole golf course. The school is an independent public school for students up to year 12. The Leinster Nickel Operation is part of the BHP's Nickel West business group. Laverton Downs
Laverton Downs Station is a pastoral lease that has operated as both a cattle station and a sheep station in Western Australia. It is situated approximately to the north of Laverton and east of Leinster in the Goldfields-Esperance region. The area supports stands of saltbush and other herbage with grassy plains. In 1925 the property was stocked with 600 head of cattle and occupied an area of and had been put on the market along with nearby Mount Crawford Station. The owner, J. MacCalmont, had vastly improved the property and was running 3,000 head of cattle. It was acquired a pair of Queenslanders, Messrs Allen and Rennie. By 1928 sheep were being run at Laverton Downs with a flock of 5,500 grazing the land. Some 9,000 sheep were shorn during shearing in 1930. George William Anderson owned the property before 1940 and was still running it in 1948.
