Bandarban Sadar Upazila
Bandarban Sadar ( bn, বান্দরবন সদর) is an upazila of Bandarban District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Geography Bandarban Sadar is located at . It has a total area of 501.99 km2. Demographics According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, Bandarban Sadar Upazila had 18,934 households and a population of 88,282, 46.9% of whom lived in urban areas. 10.6% of the population was under the age of 5. The literacy rate (age 7 and over) was 49.3%, compared to the national average of 51.8%. Administration Bandarban Sadar Upazila is divided into Bandarban Municipality and five union parishads: Bandarban, Kuhalong, Rajbila, Suwalak, and Tankabati. Bandarban District
Bandarban ( bn, বান্দরবান, Chakma: 𑄝𑄚𑄴𑄘𑄧𑄢𑄴𑄝𑄚𑄴) is a district in South-Eastern Bangladesh, and a part of the Chittagong Division. It is one of the three hill districts of Bangladesh and a part of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the others being Rangamati District and Khagrachhari District. Bandarban district (4,479 km2) is not only the most remote district of the country, but also the least populous (population 388,000). There is an army contingent at Bandarban Cantonment. Chittagong Hill Tracts
The Chittagong Hill Tracts ( bn, পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম, Parbotto Chottogram), often shortened to simply the Hill Tracts and abbreviated to CHT, are group of districts within the Chittagong Division in southeastern Bangladesh, bordering India and Myanmar (Burma). Covering , they formed a single district until 1984, when they were divided into three districts: Khagrachari District, Rangamati Hill District, and Bandarban District. Topographically, the Hill Tracts are the only extensively hilly area in Bangladesh. It was historically settled by many tribal refugees from Burma Arakan in 16th century and now it is settled by the Jumma people. Today, it remains one of the least developed parts of Bangladesh. Cumilla Cantonment ( bn, কুমিল্লা সেনানিবাস) is a cantonment located near Mainamati, Cumilla city in Bangladesh. The personnel of Bangladesh Army with local civilian inhabit here. The 33rd Infantry Division HQ is also located here. It has an area of 3000 acres. History During the Second World War, a jungle warfare school was set up at Comilla by the 14th Indian Infantry Division, after the mid-1942 Allied retreat from Burma. The school emphasized techniques in six areas key to successful fighting in jungle terrain: outflanking, being outflanked, ambushing and other minor tactics, the myth of the impenetrable jungle, health, and fitness. The school was transferred to Sevoke in 1943. Savar Cantonment
Savar Cantonment ( bn, সাভার সেনানিবাস) is a cantonment located in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The 9th infantry division of Bangladesh Army is garrisoned there. Corps of Military Police Centre & School (CMPC&S) and the Savar Golf Club (SGC) are also located in the cantonment. History Before 1971, the area was known as 'Ansar Camp' and during Bangladesh Liberation War the camp was used for Razakar by Pakistani Army. After the independence it was main training center for Jatiya Rakkhi Bahini which would be absorbed into Bangladesh Army in 1976. Since 1976 it is given to Bangladesh Army to use as their cantonment. Soldiers stationed in Savar cantonment supported the president during the 1976 Bangladesh coup d'état attempt and helped prevent the coup from being successful.
