Band-Maiko (album)
''Band-Maiko'' is the first extended play by Japanese rock group Band-Maid (as Band-Maiko). It was released on April 3, 2019, by Revolver Records. In the EP, their ''maiko'' costumes and the music with Kyoto dialect lyrics and '' wagakki'' became a very popular topic of discussion. It debuted at number 15 on the Oricon Albums Chart, selling 4,440 copies in its first week. Background and release "Secret Maiko Lips" was previously released on April Fools' Day 2018. It was meant to be a one off release, but after the positive reception they decided to release an extended play. The limited edition features the music video and making of video for "Gion-cho". Composition "Secret Maiko Lips" was originally released as "Secret My Lips" on their album '' Just Bring It''. Band-Maid (stylized as BAND-MAID® until 2016) is a Japanese rock band formed in 2013, consisting of singer Saiki Atsumi, guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, bassist Misa, and drummer Akane Hirose. The band combines a rock sound with a maid image modeled on Japanese maid cafés. They are currently signed to Pony Canyon, and their most recent full-length album ''Unseen World'' was released in 2021. History Early years The band formed in July 2013. Guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, formerly an employee of a Japanese maid café, envisioned forming a band that juxtaposed the maid image with rock music. Kobato recruited lead guitarist Kanami Tōno after an Internet search. Tōno had performed as a singer-songwriter and suggested her occasional backing drummer Akane Hirose for the new band. Start Over (Band-Maid Song)
"Start Over" is the fourth single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on July 25, 2018, by Crown Stones. Composition and lyrics "Start Over" was written in a more pop oriented style, as opposed to their usual hard rock. Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, plays the piano in the song. It was lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi's idea to include piano, as well as to not have a guitar solo. The lyrics were written to be easy to sing in karaoke, as many of their fans expressed difficulty in singing their songs. There were originally more English lyrics, but Atsumi told rhythm guitarist/vocalist Miku Kobato, to cut down on them. For the lyrics, Kobato had in mind a theme of contradictory love and that she didn't want to make the lyrics too dark or too cute. Kobato included the lyrics "I don't give a fuck" at the end of the song because she didn't want the song to end poppy. The is the oldest extant collection of Japanese (poetry in Classical Japanese), compiled sometime after AD 759 during the Nara period. The anthology is one of the most revered of Japan's poetic compilations. The compiler, or the last in a series of compilers, is today widely believed to be Ōtomo no Yakamochi, although numerous other theories have been proposed. "YOLO" is the second single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid. Released in Japan on November 16, 2016, by Crown Stones, it is the band's first single on a major record label. The title track is featured as the theme song of the video game ''Valiant Knights''. Composition In 2019, as Band-Maiko, they released an alternate version of "YOLO" (retitled "YOLOSIOSU"), with traditional Japanese instruments and lyrics rewritten in the Kyoto dialect. Background and release The single was released in two versions: a standard edition, and a limited edition, which contains the CD and a music sheet for the song "YOLO", enclosed in a sleeve. Rock paper scissors (also known by other orderings of the three items, with "rock" sometimes being called "stone," or as Rochambeau, roshambo, or ro-sham-bo) is a hand game originating in China, usually played between two people, in which each player simultaneously forms one of three shapes with an outstretched hand.
