Mueang Lopburi ( th, เมืองลพบุรี, , ) is the capital district ('' amphoe mueang'') of Lopburi province, central Thailand. The district is home to Khok Kathiam Air Force Base. History Lopburi is an ancient city. In the Khmer era, it was Lavo or Lava Pura, the important city of the eastern part of the Chao Phraya River valley. In the Ayuthaya kingdom, it was a northeastern frontier city. The glorious period of Lopburi was during the reign of King Narai the Great. He stayed in his palace eight to nine months a year, making Lopburi the second capital of the kingdom. The Royal Thai Army Special Warfare Command ( th, หน่วยบัญชาการสงครามพิเศษ) also known as Pa Wai Airborne ( th, พลร่มป่าหวาย) is the special forces of the Royal Thai Army. Its headquarters are King Narai Camp in Lopburi. History The Royal Thai Army recognizes the importance and necessity of warfare that can confront and reduce the threat from outside the country. It set up a special forces unit on June 4, 1954, at Ban Pa Wai Patan, Lopburi. Royal Thai Army special forces settled was first known as Parachute Infantry Battalion, with Lieutenant Colonel Tianchai Sirisumpan as the battalion commander.
