Ban Me Thuot East Airfield
Ban Me Thuot East Airfield (also known as Ban Me Thuot FSB, Camp Torres, FSB Aquarius, Hoa Binh Airfield, LZ Ban Me Thuot and Phung Duc Airfield) was a military and civilian airfield and army base located approximately 8 km southeast of Buôn Ma Thuột. History 1961–72 The U.S. Army's 5th Special Forces Group established the first Civilian Irregular Defense Group program (CIDG) unit at the base in 1961. The base was later used by the 5th Special Forces Group Detachment 32 and then MACV-SOG Command & Control South (CCS) operated a base here later named Camp Torres. The 20th Special Operations Squadron was based here from early 1968 to support MACV-SOG cross-border operations into Cambodia. Firebase Ban Me Thuot was located at the southeast edge of the base. Buon Ma Thuot Airport
Buon Ma Thuot Airport ( vi, Sân bay Buôn Ma Thuột) is a public airport in Vietnam. The airport is located near the provincial capital Buon Ma Thuot in Đắk Lắk Province. Another name for this airport is Phung-Duc Airport. It has one functional runway. A second incomplete runway (marked with a faded 27 R) is not in use. Two aprons are located on the south side of the airport with buildings that appeared to be used for aircraft storage. A barracks-like camp is located to the north side of the airport. The Tet Offensive was a major escalation and one of the largest military campaigns of the Vietnam War. It was launched on January 30, 1968 by forces of the Viet Cong (VC) and North Vietnamese People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) against the forces of the South Vietnamese Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), the United States Armed Forces and their allies. History The 22d Field Artillery Regiment was constituted on 18 May 1918 as Battery A, Separate Battalion of Mountain Artillery. The unit was organized at Corozal Canal Zone on 10 July 1918.
