Baltasar Porcel
Baltasar Porcel i Pujol (; Andratx, Majorca, 14 March 1937 – Barcelona, 1 July 2009) was a Spanish writer, journalist and literary critic. His enormous legacy credited him as one of the greatest authors in Catalan literature from the 20th century. Biography He was born on 14 March 1937 in Andratx, Majorca. His catalan language works has been translated into Spanish, German, English, French, Italian and Vietnamese among others. He also won several literary prizes. As a journalist he worked in La Vanguardia, Última Hora and Catalunya Ràdio. Since 1960 he lived in both Barcelona and Majorca. He was the president of the Catalan Institute for the Mediterranean since 1989 to 2000. In 2001 he won the Ramon Llull Novel Award for ''L'emperador o l'ull del vent'' . In 2002 he won the National prize of Literature of Catalonia and in 2007 the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes. The Ramon Llull Novel Award ( es, Premio Ramon Llull de novela, links=no; ca, Premi de les Lletres Catalanes Ramon Llull, links=no) is an honor given annually to a novel originally written in Catalan. Conceived in 1981 by editor , it is awarded by the Planeta publishing house in conjunction with the Government of Andorra. It confers a monetary prize, originally 250,000 pesetas and now (). It recognizes works of the greatest economic value in the Catalan language. The original objective of the award was not only to encourage the writing of books in Catalan, but also to provide the greatest possible social and commercial dissemination, both to the works and to the authors. The Prix Méditerranée (Mediterranean Prize) is a French literary award. It was created in 1984 in Perpignan by the Mediterranean Centre of Literature (CML) in order to promote cultural interaction among the numerous countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Two awards are handed out every year, the Prix Méditerranée itself and the Prix Méditerranée Étranger (or the Overseas Mediterranean Prize). The Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes (Catalan Literary Lifetime Achievement Award) is an award instituted by Omnium Cultural since 1969 to recognize a person by their scientific or literary work, written in Catalan language, the importance of their work and his/her significant contribution to cultural life of the Catalan Countries. The prize is awarded annually, with 30,000 Euro and it can't be shared between different people or declared void.
