Balsac, Aveyron
Balsac () is a village in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie region of southern France. It was merged into the new commune of Druelle Balsac on 1 January 2017. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Balsacois'' or ''Balsacoises''. Geography Balsac is located some 10 km north-west of Rodez and 8 km south-east of Saint-Christophe-Vallon, immediately west of Rodez–Marcillac Airport. Access to the commune is by the D598 which branches off the D57 west of the commune and passes through the village continuing to join the D840 south-east of the commune. The D626 goes north-east from the village to join the D840. The commune is entirely farmland. The ''Ruisseau des Parranies'' and its tributary the ''Ruisseau du Sauvage'' rise in the south of the commune and flow west then north-west, forming part of the western border of the commune, to join the ''Ruisseau de l'Ady'' west of the commune. BALSAC (database)
BALSAC is a population database that allows for the creation of genealogical histories from Quebec, covering individuals from within the province's territory from the beginning of European settlement in the 17th century to today. The database is named after the first letters of the regions it first included. History BALSAC was created in 1972 at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi in partnership with Université Laval, McGill University, and the Université de Montréal on the initiative of Gérard Bouchard. The data are derived from vital records, mostly marriage certificates, that are connected through record linkage. These records can be combined for studies in disciplines such as human genetics, demography, geography, sociology, and history. The first milestone of the project was to recreate the population of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean from over 660,000 baptisms, marriages, and deaths in the region between 1838 and 1971. Henri Heim De Balsac
Henri Heim de Balsac (1 January 1899 – 28 November 1979) was a French zoologist. In 1937 Henri Heim de Balsac was awarded the Prix Savigny de l'Académie des sciences. In the following year, 1938, he was awarded the Prix Gadeau de Kerville de la Société zoologique de France and he became a Council Member of the Société zoologique de France in February, 1938. He became a Corresponding Member of the Hungarian Institute for Ornithology and he was also responsible for the foundation of l’Institut chérifien de recherche scientifique (Maroc) :fr:Institut scientifique de Rabat. Henri Heim de Balsac worked on ethology (l’écoéthologie des Campagnols des champs), biological indicators, hydrobiology and the Chiroptera of France.
