Balmoral is a former railway station which was located on the Picton – Mittagong loop railway line. History The station opened on 2 December 1878 as ''Big Hill Lower Siding'', was renamed ''Bargo'' in 1881, and finally ''Balmoral'' in 1888. The station along with the Loop Line was closed in 1978. There are no remains of the station, but the Station Masters cottage still exists and is occupied by a retired railway worker. Main South Railway Line, New South Wales
The Main Southern Railway is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs from Sydney to Albury, near the Victorian border. The line passes through the Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions. Description of route The Main Southern Railway commences as an electrified pair of tracks in the Sydney metropolitan area. Since 1924, the line branches from the Main Suburban railway line at Lidcombe and runs via Regents Park to Cabramatta, where it rejoins the original route from Granville. The line then heads towards Campbelltown and Macarthur, the current limit of electrification and suburban passenger services. The electrification previously extended to Glenlee colliery, but this was removed following the cessation of electric haulage of freight trains in the 1990s. Balmoral, New South Wales (Southern Highlands)
Balmoral () is a Northern Village of the Southern Highlands area of New South Wales, Australia. It is the northernmost village in Wingecarribee Shire. Balmoral Village lies mostly on the eastern side of Wilson Drive. The main street is Railway Parade. The village does not have a Post Office or shops. It has a well-maintained Village Hall, including a children's play area, and a tennis court. The village also has NSW Rural Fire Service brigade There is also an active Balmoral Village Association to run events and raise money for the little community. Balmoral is formerly a station on the alignment of the Main Southern railway line, and is known variously as 'Big Hill Lower Siding' (1878), 'Bargo' (1881), and 'Balmoral' (1888).
