Ballymena F.C.
Ballymena Football Club was a football club from Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland that was founded in 1928, but dissolved in 1934 following expulsion by the Irish League for making payments to amateurs. It holds the distinction of having won the Irish Cup in its first ever season. History The club was formed by four Ballymena businessmen on 7 April 1928, immediately gaining membership of the Irish League at the expense of Barn. The first competitive game was a 0-3 defeat at home to Belfast Celtic on 20 August 1928. The club finished sixth in its first season and won the Irish Cup, beating Belfast Celtic 2-1 in the final. A replica of the trophy was produced and awarded to the club for winning the Cup in their first season. The club reached the Irish Cup final again the following season, but lost to Linfield. Ballymena Showgrounds
The Ballymena Showgrounds is a football stadium in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is home to Ballymena United F.C. and Ballymena United Allstars F.C. It is owned by Ballymena Borough Council. In addition to men's soccer a variety of other sports and events are held at the stadium and surrounding facilities, including women's association football, field hockey, and formerly hosted stock car racing. The stadium was redeveloped in 2001 at a cost of £30m. This reconstruction included the building of a new stand and new dressing room facilities. In 2010 the Warden Street stand was redeveloped to all-seater standard with a new capacity of 2,200 seats. The stadium now holds 4,100 spectators, but is limited to 3,600 due to health and safety.
