Ballett Zürich
Ballett Zürich, formerly known as Zürich Ballet, is the largest professional ballet company in Switzerland. Its principal venue is the Zürich Opera House and it regularly tours across the country. The company includes an ensemble cast of 36 dancers and 14 junior members. Christian Spuck has directed the company since 2012, assuming the role from Heinz Spoerli. The ensemble danced in the 2012–13 season before a total of 48,061 visitors, averaging a space occupancy of 93.5%. History Ballet Zürich emerged from Zürich's now defunct "Ballet of City Theatre". Douglas Lee (born 1977 in London, England) is a British choreographer. A former principal dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet, his ballets have been premiered by Stuttgart Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, New York City Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theatre, and several other European ballet companies. Cathy Marston
Cathy Marston (born 1975) is a British choreographer and artistic director. She was the director of Bern Ballett from 2007–2013. After her tenure, she has choreographed for companies worldwide, including The Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Northern Ballet. She will become the ballet director and chief choreographer of Ballett Zürich in 2023. Early life Cathy Marston was born in Newcastle in 1975. Both of her parents were English teachers. Hikaru Kobayashi (小林ひかる, born 19 September 1976) is a Japanese ballet dancer who was a first soloist with The Royal Ballet in London. Biography Born in Tokyo, she started ballet at age three after seeing ''Swan Lake'' on television. At age 15, she decided to apply to the Paris Opera Ballet School, though she was told the school did not accept foreigners. She got the contact informations from the French embassy. She was accepted, making her the first Japanese student there, though she discovered there were other foreign students. Itziar Mendizabal (born 14 December 1981) is a Spanish ballet dancer who has performed as a First Soloist with The Royal Ballet since 2010. Mendizabal was born in Hondarribia, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. She started ballet at age 4, and at age 12, she moved to Madrid to train at Víctor Ullate's Ballet Comunidad de Madrid in 1997. Debra Austin (born July 25, 1955) is an American ballet dancer who rose to prominence in 1982 when she was promoted to the rank of principal dancer at Pennsylvania Ballet, making her the first African-American female principal dancer of a major American ballet company. She was also the first African-American female dancer at the New York City Ballet. She currently serves as the ballet mistress for the Carolina Ballet. Career Debra Austin began dancing when she was eight years old. At the age of twelve, she was awarded a scholarship to dance at the School of American Ballet in New York City. Viktorina Kapitonova (born June 30, 1985) is a Russian ballerina. She is a principal dancer with Boston Ballet. Early life and education Kapitonova was born in Cheboksary a city in the north of Chuvashia, a regional republic of Russia. Polina Alexandrovna Semionova (russian: link=no, Полина Александровна Семионова; born 13 September 1984) is a Russian ballet dancer and model for Uniqlo who is currently a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in New York and with the Berlin State Ballet. Dame Margaret Evelyn de Arias DBE (''née'' Hookham; 18 May 191921 February 1991), known by the stage name Margot Fonteyn, was an English ballerina. She spent her entire career as a dancer with the Royal Ballet (formerly the Sadler's Wells Theatre Company), eventually being appointed ''prima ballerina assoluta'' of the company by Queen Elizabeth II.
