Will Magid, known professionally as Balkan Bump is an American trumpet player, record producer, producer, and ethnomusicology, ethnomusicologist based in Oakland, California, Oakland, CA. Signed to electronic music, electronic producer Gramatik, Gramatik's record label, label Lowtemp, Balkan Bump's music interweaves electronic production and live instrumentation. Early life Magid grew up in Palo Alto, California, Palo Alto, where his father tech journalist Larry Magid would often bring home new electronics and games, inspiring an early interest in technology. Derek Vincent Smith (born November 25, 1981), known by his stage name Pretty Lights, is an American electronic music producer. Pretty Lights was originally a music project consisting of Smith and Michal Menert, who left after the release of their first album. Rick Rubin once described Pretty Lights as "the face and voice of the new American electronic music scene". Early life Smith started skateboarding with Michal Menert in the 8th grade. The pair, together with a drummer Menert knew, began making music after Smith brought a bass guitar to a skating session. Paul Brandt (Paul Basic) eventually replaced their original drummer. Bonobo (musician)
Simon Green (born 30 March 1976), known by his stage name Bonobo, is a British musician, producer, and DJ based in Los Angeles. He debuted with a trip hop aesthetic, and has since explored more upbeat approaches as well as jazz and world music influences. His tranquil electronic music, electronic sound incorporates the use of organic instrumentation, and is recreated by a full band in live performances. Afrolicious
Afrolicious is a dance-fusion collective based in San Francisco, California. Founded by brothers Joe "Pleasuremaker" McGuire and Oz "Señor Oz" McGuire, the group's weekly residency at the Elbo Room in the Mission District has established Afrolicious as an integral player in the San Francisco live music scene. At its core Afrolicious consists of a DJ duo, but has since expanded to include a live band with as many as twelve pieces as well as a project known as Afrolicious Soundsystem.
