Étienne Balibar
Étienne Balibar (; ; born 23 April 1942) is a French philosopher. He has taught at the University of Paris X-Nanterre, at the University of California Irvine and is currently an Anniversary Chair Professor at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP) at Kingston University and a Visiting Professor at the Department of French and Romance Philology at Columbia University. Life Balibar was born in Avallon, Yonne, Burgundy, France in 1942, and first rose to prominence as one of Althusser's pupils at the École normale supérieure. He entered the École normale supérieure in 1960. In 1961, Balibar joined the ''Parti communiste français''. He was expelled in 1981 for critiquing the party's policy on immigration in an article. Balibar participated in Louis Althusser's seminar on Karl Marx's ''Das Kapital'' in 1965. This seminar resulted in the book ''Reading Capital'', co-authored by Althusser and his students. Françoise Balibar
Françoise Balibar (born Françoise Dumesnil; 1941) is a French physicist and science historian, a professor emeritus at Paris Diderot University. She has extensively published works on Albert Einstein, the theory of relativity, and the history and epistemology of physics. Biography Françoise Balibar studied at École Normale Supérieure from 1960 to 1964. She has written numerous articles in national and international journals and led the CNRS team in charge of six volumes of the French edition of Einstein's selected works. She is also the author of several books, including ''The Science of Crystals'' and ''Einstein: Decoding the Universe''. She is the wife of the philosopher Étienne Balibar and the mother of the actress Jeanne Balibar. She has appeared in two films: ' in 1997 and '' Modern Life'' in 2000. Jeanne Balibar
Jeanne Balibar (born 13 April 1968) is a French actress and singer. Life and career Balibar was born in Paris, the daughter of Marxist philosopher Étienne Balibar and physicist Françoise Balibar. She started her career as a student in the famous French theater school "Cours Florent", in Paris, with her friends, actor Eric Ruf and photographer & actor Gregory Herpe. She began her acting career on the stage, in "Don Juan" at the Festival d'Avignon. Her first film role was in Arnaud Desplechin's 1992 film ''The Sentinel''. She continues to perform in both spheres.
