Bald Mountain (Michigan)
Bald Mountain, located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, is one of several bare rock summits of the Huron Mountain range. It is on the border of Marquette County and Baraga County, but most of the summit resides in Marquette County. It rises about south of Lake Superior (elevation ). Bald Mountain is an outlier of the Huron Mountain range, as it is farther west than most of the other rocky summits. Other outliers on the opposite, eastern side of the range include Hogsback Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain. It is currently privately owned, but is administered under the CFA program. The surrounding area is being actively logged in 2017. Huron Mountains
The Huron Mountains are located in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan, mostly in Marquette and Baraga counties, overlooking Lake Superior. Their highest peak is Mount Arvon which, at above sea level, is the highest point in the state of Michigan. Nearby Mt. Curwood, Michigan's second highest mountain at , is also a part of the Huron Mountains. Geology The mountains are the remnants of much higher peaks, composed of rocks dating back to the Precambrian period, which have gone through successive periods of uplift and erosion. The outcroppings of granite and siliceous metamorphic rocks bear the evidence of more recent glacial action. Geologically, the area is part of the Canadian shield. Baraga County
Baraga County ( ) is a county in the Upper Peninsula in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 8,158, making it Michigan's fifth-least populous county. The county seat is L'Anse. The county is named after Bishop Frederic Baraga, a Catholic missionary who ministered to the Ojibwa Indians in the Michigan Territory. The L'Anse Indian Reservation of the Ojibwa is within Baraga County. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (16%) is water.
