Baix Empordà
Baix Empordà in Catalan (; en, Lower Empordà, italic=yes) or Bajo Ampurdán in Spanish () is a ''comarca'' (county) in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It is one of the two ''comarca'' into which Empordà was divided in the comarcal division of 1936, the other one being Alt Empordà. It is popularly known as ''L'Empordanet'' ("the Little Empordà"). Geography Extent Baix Empordà is the southern portion of the historical region of Empordà. It includes the municipalities between the Montgrí Massif, just north of the river Ter, and the Aro valley, in the south. It measure some from north to south, and from east to west, with a total area of . It borders Alt Empordà to the north, Gironès and Selva to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the east. Comarques Of Catalonia
This is a list of the 42 ''comarques'' (singular ''comarca'', , ) into which Catalonia is divided. A '' comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. However, in the context of Catalonia, the term "county" can be a bit misleading, because in medieval Catalonia, aside from the kings of Aragon, the most important rulers were counts, notably the Counts of Barcelona and of Urgell. Comarques have no particular relation to the " counties" that were ruled by counts. Sant Feliu De Guíxols
Sant Feliu de Guíxols () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Baix Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the Costa Brava and is an important port and tourist centre. The district abuts to the north, the upmarket s'Agaró resort built round the Sant Pol Beach. In addition to tourism and the port the cork industry is a traditionally local industry. The town contains a large monastery which now houses the town museum and is a protected historico-artistic monument. The C-253 road runs north near the coast from Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Platja d'Aro and Palamós, while the C-65 road runs inland from the town. The GI-682 provides a dramatic cliff top drive to Tossa de Mar to the south. Sant Feliu de Guíxols is a staging point on the GR 92 long distance footpath, which runs the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Palamós () is a town and municipality in the Mediterranean Costa Brava, located in the ''comarca'' of Baix Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Palamós is located at the northern end of a large bay. The town is by-passed by the C31 which connects the coastal towns of the central Costa Brava with Girona. Palafrugell
Palafrugell () is a municipality in the Mediterranean ''Costa Brava'', located near Palamós in the ''comarca'' of Baix Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. With 22,365 inhabitants it is the largest city of its comarca. Several coastal and interior towns ( Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell, Tamariu and Llofriu) belong to this city. The area's summer climate and beaches have been exploited for tourism. In additional to international tourism, Palafrugell serves as a summer holiday town for residents of cities such as Barcelona and Girona. This medieval town was once fortified but is no longer. Many narrow streets emanate from Plaça Nova -a large square with bars, restaurants and boutiques. Mont-ras
Mont-Ras (Catalan; in Spanish, Montrás) is a village and rural district situated between the larger towns of Palafrugell and Palamos on the Costa Brava in Baix Emporda, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Mont-ras is approximately 40 minutes from Girona, or 80 minutes from Barcelona. The historic village centre sits just in the initial rise of the Gavarres hills and natural park, while the rest of the district extends across the plain to meet the Mediterranean sea at the rocky bay of El Crit just to the south of Cap Roig looking out to the Formigues Islands. The name Mont(hill)-ras(level) derives from this geographic situation.
