Baie-Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick
Baie-Sainte-Anne (2011 population: 1,387) is a rural community in Northumberland County, New Brunswick, Canada. It is an acadian community located on the southern shore of Miramichi Bay near its opening into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Possibly named for Sainte-Anne, patroness of the Micmacs. Peat farming and lobster processing are the area's major sources of income. The local service district of Baie Ste. Anne takes its name from this community but spells it differently. Camille Thériault
Camille Henri Thériault (born February 25, 1955) served as the 29th premier of New Brunswick from 1998 to 1999. Early life The son of Joséphine Martin and Norbert Thériault, a former provincial cabinet minister and Canadian Senator, Camille Thériault was born in Baie-Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick, and graduated from École Régionale de Baie Sainte-Anne. He then obtained a bachelor of social science degree with a major in political science from the Université de Moncton. Political career Thériault was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 1987 provincial election that saw the Liberal Party, of which he was a member, win every seat in the province. L. Norbert Thériault (February 16, 1921 – June 19, 2016) was a Canadian politician. He was born in Eel River Bridge, New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Northumberland (1960–1974) and Baie-du-Vin (1974–1979) in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, and was a provincial cabinet minister in New Brunswick in the 1960s. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada on March 26, 1979 on the advice of then-Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, and served until his 75th birthday on February 16, 1996. Yvon Durelle (October 14, 1929 – January 6, 2007), was a Canadian champion boxer. He was of Acadian descent. Early life From a family of fourteen children, Yvon Durelle grew up in Baie-Ste-Anne, a small Acadian fishing village on Miramichi Bay on the Atlantic coast. Like many others of his generation, he left school at an early age to work on a fishing boat. In his spare time, Durelle liked to box and while still working in the fishery, he began prize fighting on weekends. Career Billed as ''The Fighting Fisherman'', Durelle began his professional career in 1948, boxing at various venues around the province of New Brunswick. Northumberland County is located in northeastern New Brunswick, Canada. Geography Northumberland County is covered by thick forests, whose products stimulate the economy. The highest peaks in the province, including Mount Carleton lie in the northwestern corner of the county. The county is dominated by the Miramichi River, world famous for its salmon fishing.
