Baie-Mahault
Baie-Mahault is a commune in the overseas department and region of Guadeloupe, France. It is the second most populated commune of Guadeloupe, after Les Abymes. The extensive industrial zone of Jarry in Baie-Mahault is by far the most industrialized commune in the islands and the largest industrial park in the Lesser Antilles. It is part of the urban area of Pointe-à-Pitre, the largest metropolitan area in Guadeloupe, located in the northwest. The inhabitants of Baie-Mahault are called Baie-Mahaultiens. History Baie-Mahault may be named for a variety of mangrove called ''mahault'' or ''mahot'' common in this area. On 29 November 1808, during the Napoleonic Wars, boats from HMS ''Heureux'' attacked French vessels in the harbour and the batteries protecting them. The captain of ''Heureux'' was killed and one of his men was wounded. The British succeeded in destroying the guns of one of the two batteries, and in capturing a schooner. Les Abymes
Les Abymes () is the most populous commune in the French overseas region and department of Guadeloupe, in the Lesser Antilles. It is located on the west side of the island of Grande-Terre, and is part of the largest metropolitan area of Guadeloupe, which also covers Pointe-à-Pitre. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Abymiens'' or ''Abymiennes''. Geography Les Abymes is located some 3 km north-east of Pointe-à-Pitre, 7 km east of Baie-Mahault, and 10 km south-west of Morne-à-l'Eau. Access to the commune is by Route nationale N1 from Baie-Mahault in the west which passes along the southern border of the commune and continues south as the N4. The N5 branches off the N1 and goes north-east through the centre of the commune and continues north-east to Morne-a-L'eau. Pointe-à-Pitre (; gcf, label=Guadeloupean Creole, Pwentapit, , or simply , ) is the second largest (most populous) city of Guadeloupe after Les Abymes. Guadeloupe is an overseas region and Overseas department, department of France located in the Lesser Antilles, of which it is a ''Subprefectures in France, sous-préfecture'', being the seat of the Arrondissement of Pointe-à-Pitre. Vélodrome Amédée Détraux
The Vélodrome Amédée Détraux is an outdoor velodrome in Baie-Mahault, Guadeloupe, France. Before 2010 it was called Vélodrome de Gourde-Liane. The concrete track has a length of and is the largest velodrome of the Antilles. It has a capacity for 9000 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Guadeloupe. The track is used especially for cyclists from Guadeloupe. It hosted for the first time in the Antilles the French National Track Championships in 2009 and the 2014 UEC European Track Championships in October 2014. French Corvette Lynx (1804)
''Lynx'' (or ''Linx'') was a 16-gun brig of the French Navy, name ship of her two-vessel class of brigs, and launched at Bayonne on 17 April 1804. The British captured her in 1807 and named her HMS ''Heureux''. After service in the Caribbean that earned her crew two medals, including one for a boat action in which her captain was killed, she was laid up in 1810 and sold in 1814. French service ''Lynx'' was the name ship of her two-vessel class of brigs. She was built to plans by Pierre-Jacques-Nicolas Rolland. The French Navy commissioned her in June 1804 under Lieutenant Fargenel. She took part in the Trafalgar Campaign, ferrying dispatches between Fort de France and France, where she arrived on 10 July 1805. Mélanie Georgiades (; born 25 July 1980 in Nicosia), better known by her stage name Diam's (), is a French rapper of Greek Cypriot origin. Biography Mélanie Marie Georgiades was born on July 25, 1980 in Nicosia, capital of Cyprus. Her mother is French and her father is Greek Cypriot. After her parents separated, she arrived in France with her mother at the age of three. She spent her childhood in Paris, then in the department of Essonne, in Brunoy, until the age of thirteen.
