Rahanweyn Resistance Army
The Rahaweyn Resistance Army (RRA), also known as the Reewin Resistance Army, is an autonomist militant group operating in the Southern Somalia, It was the first Reewin armed faction to emerge during the Somali civil war. The stated goal of the RRA is the creation and recognition of an independent state of Maayland it was led by Hasan Muhammad Nur Shatigadud. The RRA was founded in a ''shir'' assembly at Jhaffey, west of Baidoa, on 13 October 1995. Col. Bay ( so, Baay, ar, باي, it, Bai) is an administrative region (''Regions of Somalia, gobol'') in southern Somalia. Overview It is bordered by the Somali regions of Bakool, Hiran, Somalia, Hiran, Lower Shebelle (Shabeellaha Hoose), Middle Juba (Jubbada Dhexe), and Gedo. Hasan Muhammad Nur Shatigadud
Colonel Hasan Muhammad Nur Shatigadud ( so, Xasan Maxamed Nuur Shaatigaduud; ar, حسن محمد نور شاتيغادود) (1946–2013) was a Somali politician and faction leader. He served as the chairman of the Rahanweyn Resistance Army (RRA), and subsequently as the first President of the short-lived Southwestern Somalia autonomous regional state. Shatigadud was later a Member of the Transitional Federal Parliament, and was eventually appointed Minister of Finance in the Transitional Federal Government. Shatigadud was succeeded as president by Madobe Nunow. Personal life Shatigadud was born in 1946 in the small town of Bakaaryari, situated near Ethiopia in southern Somalia. He hailed from the Hariin subclan of Mirifle Rahanweyn. Shatigadud attended primary school in Baidoa, then moved to Mogadishu for secondary school. The Rahanweyn (Maay: ''Reewin or Roowing'', Northern Somali: ''Raxanweyn'', ar, رحنوين), also known as the Digil and Mirifle () are a Somali clan. It is one of the major Somali clans in the Horn of Africa, with a large territory and densely populated fertile valleys of the Jubba and Shebelle rivers and the area between are mainly inhabited by settlers from the Digil and Mirifle lineages.
